We really did like the Mantra Charles hotel… the location is wonderful (only 15min walk to all restaurants and river), it’s modern/new, the staff is friendly and it has free parking. What’s not to like?

Well: be very concerned which room you are being assigned to. After reserving the “executive suite” (and asking if we could have a room “with a view”, we were assigned room 213 - oh my! What a bad location (in the hotel complex): it’s right above the kitchen, above the loading dock, with a view onto a concrete wall, and the noisy elevator right in front of it. Do NOT accept rooms 113, 213, 313 (or close by) if you like to sleep with your window/balcony open.

Dear Hotel Management (should you read all this). Please advise your staff to NOT assign rooms facing that dreaded back-ally until you ask the guest: “Ma’m/Sir: would you like to be woken up at 6:30am with bacon smell while the kitchen is preparing breakfast?” “Ma’m/Sir: would you like to be woken up at 7:30am with the beeping noise of delivery trucks backing into that alley?” “Ma’m/Sir: would you like to be woken up at 8:30am while the cleaning staff rolls their cars noisily over the tiles in the elevators area?” “Ma’m/Sir: would you like to close your balcony door at ~6pm while the kitchen is preparing dinner, because the smell is overpowering?” Only if a guest answers ALL 4 questions with a YES! should you assign those rooms.

I am making light of all this: we could have changed rooms but my wife had unpacked and spread out her make-up station, it was too much hassle. However, in hindsight I wished we had moved. Dear staff: you’ve been very kind/friendly - just please take that advice to heart: for the love of god, don’t assign those...

The very first sight of the architecture of the hotel gives us an impression that we are entering a palace. The rooms are well furnished and all modern electric gadgets like micro wave,Electrical kettle,Lovely TV,WIFI,etc.,The Hotel is provided with parking lot for cars. The rooms are provided with cook top ,and dish washer, etc.,Provisions can be arranged on order and will be charged. The high light of the room is the SPA provided in the bed room it self! The hotel is very close to city centre and lot of attractions to be seen are less than 2kms away. The rooms are provided with beautiful wall paintings.Even the corridors are well lit and paintings are provided in corridors too.The view of near by hills from the bedroom window is beautiful. The front room is provided with two windows and the hill view is from one window. The other window behind the TV allows us to view the colourful trees, and lovely fountains near by.The fountains are viewed in the morning and it left very good impression about the hotel. The beds are very comfortable and cosy.A session of half an hour in the SPA gave us good relief. The rooms are centrally air conditioned and good comfort can be felt in any season. The check out time of 8 AM is a bit costly,How ever they got their own compulsions to fix it.The stay in the hotel was pleasant in all ways and we feel like coming again and again to have a...

Disgusting how they can do this to a 77 year old.

Warning. To all my Facebook friends especially in Tasmania. If you are thinking of visiting Launceston, do not book into the Charles hotel. They are criminals, I booked three nights because Ken had to go in for an operation and of course the hospital is just opposite, so it was walking distance to visit him. The blind in my room was slightly frayed but with caution worked. But on my last night it got stuck. I reported this to he man on the front desk, he seemed more disgruntled that I had disturbed him from his work. I said don’t worry the light doesn’t come into the room so it won’t bother me sleeping. Anyway after picking Ken up from the hospital and arriving home I had an email from the Charles hotel saying the blind was beyond repair and had charged my credit card 1660 dollars. I am 77 years old, do they think I had swung on the blind to break it. So beware if you are staying there do not break anything because they can just take money from your credit card. Please share this to all your public friends on Facebook it just might get...

Fantastic staff, caring and accomodating. Food is delicious and rooms are clean and spacious. I had a King Suite with semi contained kitchenette. Bathroom is basic with all that you need. Centrally located in Launceston, with amenities a convenient distance away. I do need to add that parking is a nightmare though, due to visitors of surrounding businesses taking up Hotel patron parking spots. I do not believe it is fair to penalise the hotel for this, as the service and meal quality far outweighs the minor inconvenience. For meals, the Pork Belly was cooked beautifully, it melted in your mouth and was full of flavour. The Bass Straight Rib Eye was cooked to perfection (medium) and complimented well with the verges and red wine jus. 5/5 for service, 5/5 for food, 3/5 for parking.
