Quality not as good as it used to be which means it no longer justifies the price (for the normal menu), inflation has also bitten more than at other places. Don't even offer the humble spring roll as an add-on any more (only "full serves"), replaced with a bland alternative without letting us know which we worked out on the next visit.
Edit: Came to edit to bump up one star as my meal this time was better than last, although bahn mi was apparently disappointing.
I'll clarify the spring rolls, last time we had a spring roll noodle salad and another noodle salad add spring rolls. The additions were instead the lace ones (which we were unaware of) and were terrible and yes bland in comparison to the usual - we got to try them side by side as the spring roll noodle salad had the traditional type. This time round I asked for the normal type as an add on but they only sell them in $10 serves 🤷.
The pricing comment was referring to the normal menu ($20.50 for a noodle salad), not the lace spring rolls. $2 is very cheap for those, and...
Read moreIf you want Vietnamese street food at your front door, you definitely need to head over to Bunn Mee in leederville. I had the bún thịt nướng or grilled pork vermicelli supersized with additional authentic lacy/netted springrolls, the pork was chargrilled and tender packed full of flavour. The netted springrolls are actually uncommon to find, so I was excited to get these ones. The Vietnamese coffee was delicious and just the right balance of coffee and condensed milk. My sister got the crackling roast pork bánh mì thịt and I wish I had more space to buy one too! The pork was crunchy and the paté was amazing. The highlight for me was discovering the pandan brown sugar custard tart, it was like a Portuguese tart but with an Asian twist. Highly recommend, it was so good I bought another four to take home for my family...if it lasts til then anyway haha. Also don't be too deterred by the queue, it's start getting packed round 1130am but service is quick so food comes out in no time. Thanks Bunn Mee team, you really made my lunch a...
Read moreI have been here a few times, & overall I really like it. But my one complaint (& I've had this dish several times), is the filling for the pancake is not generous at all! In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's quite mean. There is plenty of salad & herbs, but the filling inside is lots of beansprouts & not a lot else. I usually have the mushroom one, & it is like, 1x button mushroom cut into very, very thin pieces. The pork & prawn is not much better, but it is the same price as the mushroom! The last time I looked, mushrooms were a lot cheaper than pork or prawns! For $16, I would prefer to have less herbs & salad, & have more mushrooms, so that it tastes like mushrooms! And I, (like most people) would happily pay more for pork & prawns. Maybe consider charging $18 for the pork & prawn pancake, & put enough mushrooms in the mushroom one, so it tastes like mushrooms? Then I would be happy to give this place a 5-star review :) Service is friendly & fast, the coffee is good, & I will...
