This is NOT a negative review.
TLDR: good good great vibes, but I’ll dig deeper in my detailed review below.
Ambiance The whole place is nice and clean with good vibes. Ample seating both inside and outside. If you’re sitting outside cockatiels will come to say hi, but please don’t feed them as it’s not the best thing to give fries and oils to birds. Even with birds all around you the tables outside are clean! There’s plenty of locals and tourists walking by on weekends with their cute dogs, so make sure to say hi 👋🏽
Staff Omg, where do I start to talk about this lovely bunch. I’m gonna be rude and try describe them as I didn’t ask any names. You need to order and pay at counter and then they bring food, drinks and whatever else you ask for to your table. There was this beautiful lady with a moon tattoo on her face, she’s so lovely and positive and smiling spreading her positivity around. Another gentleman who when I asked “what burger is this” because we had different orders, gave me the name of the burger and explained it to me as well, over and above is perfect customer service. There was another gentleman with a great smile and dreadlocks who was very friendly too. The only person who didn’t smile much was, on second thought I’m not gonna say coz everyone is allowed to have a bad day. 5 ⭐️ for all staff.
Food This is the only aspect lacking a bit, and only because I’m a food snob out of Melbourne CBD criticising a local eatery in the county. I loved the beef burger (I think was called mad cow) and my friends enjoyed the chicken burgers. The fries were fresh cut I believe but not double fried making it not that crispy and that is why it is ok to use frozen fries at a cafe! Only fresh cut if you are super confident in your fries game. As for our breakie next day, the scrambled eggs are ok, but I’ve had better poached eggs and I have a feeling (not sure) they are poached in a wrap not traditional way. Also the relish I’m pretty sure comes out of a bottle (nothing wrong with that except don’t be charging premium price for bottle relish given how easy it’s to make at home OR buy better relish coz it was just ok relish)
Overall loved the place and will definitely go back there again for lunch when I’m back in Lorne, maybe not for a...
Read moreI went to The Bottle of Milk on Saturday 2nd March (at 2 p.m.) with my partner and I rarely take the time to leave reviews when service was bad as I used to work in hospitality, too.
I am coeliac and I do understand that cross contamination is the standard in all cafes and restaurants but some do take more measures to prevent cross contamination. When I asked about their gluten free buns, the girl at the cash register was very impatient and just wanted to take the order and did not care about what I had to say. At this stage the lunch rush was already over and only one person was lining up behind me to order. After asking 2 questions about safe choices for me, an old guy with grey collar length hair at the coffee machine rolled his eyes and said "ugh" which was incredibly rude. This attitude is shocking and very uninviting and it does not matter whether he was the owner of the place or not.
I ended up only ordering for my partner which we straight away cancelled and left the place. Would not recommend as a burger with chips cost 40 dollars which I would be happy to pay if good service was provided.
We ended up going to Lorne Central where we were greeted friendly and all coeliac safe options were patiently explained and I was...
Read moreWe visited BoM on a long weekend. They were quite frantic and obviously struggling with staff. I had quite low expectations of what would come. We ordered lamb kebabs and our son had waffles and ice-cream. My partner order a mixed drink Vodka and something which was very good as well as coffees and milk shakes. There was a bit of a wait but the staff were lovely and doing their very best. Covid and post Covid the hospitality industry is struggling with staffing. The kebabs were amazing not just good. The Souvlaki and Kebab House in Bell Street Preston has fantastic souvlaki/gyros takeaway and GRK Greek Kitchen in High Street Thornbury has fantastic Greek food full stop. Agapes in Richmond is also fantastic if you like Greek food. BoM were absolutely on par with their kebabs. Generous and excellent. It was freezing cold and we sat outside rugged up with a lovely view across to the surf. I have been visiting Lorne for many years and will be going back to BoM to try a more substantial menu. Well done !!! .... BTW .. we finished with a lovely walk in the rain around nearby Erskine Falls ...home to Melbourne via thaeOtway's and the inland route ......
