Absolutely delicious. Best restaurant I've been to in a long time. The food is to die for. Fantastic service. Delicious mocktails and desserts. Came out so fast. 10/10. I suggest people DO NOT listen to negative reviews. There was absolutely NOTHING NEGATIVE in our experience and what I read from other reviews, they do not fit with our experience at this restaurant in any way at all. The music was AMAZING and you could still talk to everyone at the table without having to yell. The acoustics in the building are amazing. The decor is beautiful. We honestly LOVED everything and felt so welcome and comfortable there that is was hard getting up to leave. The prices are on a par with all other restaurants so definitely NOT overpriced as someone suggested. We did not wait long before our meals all came out. We cannot wait to go back again. We all left feeling so full and felt bad we could not finish some of the meals. We bought so many different things and did a banquet style for our table so we all got to try the different meals. The cook was so lovely and came out to see if everything was okay. The staff were so lovely and even though it was one of the waitress' first day, she did a great job and the other girl was so lovely too in teaching her things while we were being served. It is great to sit and feel so welcome and part of the place. AMAZING is the only word to...

Very disappointed in the food as it is gradually losing consistency it is very obvious that there do not follow their standard recipes lm a regular and yesterday was my final stroll, their chicken light soup l ordered is totally different from when last l was going there a couple of times! it is no longer the maryland piece and the soup colour nolonger vibrant just watery boiled chicken pieces chucked in it no flavour as it used to! come to think l spent $76 the goat okra soup was ok but meat pieces so small for the price charged moving onto the fufu and banku very small portions tbh this place is going to close down soon with the rate it's going! to keep customers is to make sure your meals are always consistent from the beginning of the business. Now coming to service the food l ordered required me to use my hand no washing bowl was given the waiter was never on the floor half the time l don't know if they dnt have staff or the owner jus brings in his kids to help him which is terrible coz literally no customer service from my observation they don't care about their customers ... As l said this was my final stroll lm on a hunt to find a good west African restaurant that is serving these dishes. Akwaaba you're are over priced but don't deliver value for money l don't think you understand what it is to be hospitable in...

A very unique place with a food style that is not easy to find in Melbourne.

Going in a big group always means you get to try lots of dishes so I felt lucky to be able to order a lot! When encountering new styles of food one wants to try it all!

Firstly, the ambience. It feels like a nice family run restaurant. There is interesting artwork on the walls and colours that pop out.

The service was time, friendly & warm.

We ordered a fair few dishes. My favourite was the black eye bean stew and the African beef stew casserole. The depth of flavour in the bean stew was incredible. There was a creamy texture to the beans, followed by warming spices all wrapped up in a perfectly seasoned sauce. Combining it with the plantains served alongside the beans was heavenly. It added an extra smooth caramelised texture to an already great dish. The Beef Stew was rich and tangy with tomato forward flavours. Dipping Fufu in it was an excellent way to soak up the flavour to balance it all out. The meat itself was cooked well. The fried fish with bread was unlike anything I had tasted before. I felt the fish was perhaps too salt forward for my taste. The sauces it came with (three dips) were unique in their own way and very tasty.

All in all this is a must-try location with some standout dishes! Next time I...

please, if you can, come here. my friend was craving fufu so after googling African restaurants nearby, we came here. this is my first time trying African food. we were given a plate of chicken giblets on the house (i am not sure if it’s complimentary for everyone, i believe we were given for a delay in the food which in all honestly didn’t take too long) which were season perfectly and so so good. for mains we had Okro soup and fufu. the okra soup was a little bland for us but as i was experiencing a novelty i didn’t quite mind. i asked for some extras of onions, etc and the waiters were honestly so amazing. despite not being African i felt so welcome, the individuals serving us were so kind and full of smiles, best customer service i’ve ever gotten at a restaurant. i could rate it 5 stars from that alone. the atmosphere was also brilliant the experience here left me craving for more and i deffo will be going back if i ever make the trip to the area again. yummy! 5/5
