I had a terrific "right time, right place" experience here over the weekend ... having stayed at an AirBnB the night before a few doors down Acland St I dropped in for a cup of coffee and there was a read-through / rehearsal of a play called "Midwest Scouse" about to start.
What a great start to a Sunday morning with no real plans to rush off for ! The place itself is great, the staff very friendly and they definitely brew each and every coffee with a lot of love. Fab location with a tree covered courtyard out front.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read-through of the play, local drama productions is something I have always enjoyed and not had the kind of time for I'd like. The play-write, director, and actors all put together a tour-de-force that will not disappoint punters who go to see the final product.
Thank you to everyone at Theatre Works who put in so much work on this show and gave me the opportunity to see it coming along all for the price of a cup of coffee.
It's these little experiences being in the right place at the right time that create some of the most...
Read moreAs a first time visitor to St Kilda to watch a dear friend perform in âEvery Lovely Terrible Thingâ at Theatre Works, we were not entirely sure what to expect. However, my wife and I had a wonderful time enjoying the production. What made it all the more special was the theatre, once a Parish Hall and now this amazing community feel performance space, which was as well-equipped and professional as could have ever been imagined. We arrived half an hour before the performance and indulged in a civilized pre-performance drink in the charming front courtyard on a lovely autumnal afternoon. The staff were welcoming and attentive. All and all a thoroughly wonderful experience. The only thing I would say is that the theatre seats donât have a lot of padding, but I donât believe a numb bum was worthy of a deduction from the 5 star rating the...
Read moreA great little find Went to Theatreworks in Acland Street, St Kilda for the 5 o'clock performance. The bar was open so we had a couple of very nice glasses of red wine. A great selection of nice wine at a good price, not cheap wine that is totally undrinkable. By the time of the performance, the foyer was buzzing and full of people eager to get into the theatre. Hint. Seats are not reserved, so make sure you are near the doors when they open. The tiers allow all to see well so it didn't matter where you sat. The theatre space is intimate and seats around 100+ patrons. I will definitely be back. Thanks to the ticket people in their TW t-shirts and management for making this gem available for us and very friendly. The mulled wine on offer is...
