A Footscray artist has been charged by Victoria Police over child images exhibited at Linden Gallery, St Kilda, earlier this year (The Sunday Age, 08 Sep 13, Page 3). If convicted will the Board of Management of the Linden Gallery, and those who put the exhibition together be liable too? The chairwoman is related to a local ALP MP who has been supportive (sometimes hysterically) of the gallery during the police investigation.

According to The Sunday Age today (13 Oct 13) some staff and some on the board are now at each others throats in a nasty power fight. It is time for the Port Phillip Council to cease funding the Linden Gallery. Also are ratepayers granted to the Linden earlier this year for the art going to be misused in any legal issues concerning the child images exhibition or any internal factional fighting?

UPDATE: In July 14 the 2013 annual report was finally published online and the chairwoman has been replaced as Chairman of the Board. In 2013 the Linden had a $91,000 deficit ($31,000 in 2012 too) despite all the council, government and private funding and staff wages increased in 2013 by about $100,000 too. This can not continue.

The Footscray artists court case in now scheduled for 3 days from 18 Aug 14 at the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

UPDATE: On 06 Sep 17 Port Phillip Council voted to pour a further $1.5 million of our rates for yet another upgrade to this old mansion. A better option would be not to renew the least (no rent paid) and sell the building.

Port Phillip Town Hall (St Kilda) 1 km away has a better and larger art gallery near the foyers so...

Nestled in the heart of Melbourne, the Linden Art Gallery is a hidden gem that seamlessly marries artistry with elegance. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending a friend's wedding at this magnificent venue, and I must say, it was an experience that surpassed all expectations. From the moment I stepped foot inside, I was captivated by the gallery's ambiance. The air was filled with an aura of creativity, as if each brushstroke on the walls whispered tales of inspiration and imagination. The curated collection of artworks adorning the space served not only as a feast for the eyes but also as a testament to the gallery's commitment to celebrating the beauty of human expression. The wedding itself was a spectacle of love and joy, set against the backdrop of stunning artwork and bathed in the soft glow of carefully curated lighting. The staff at Linden Art Gallery were consummate professionals, ensuring that every aspect of the event ran seamlessly. From coordinating the decorations to attending to the guests' needs, their attention to detail was truly commendable. What truly sets Linden Art Gallery apart, however, is its versatility. Whether hosting a wedding, an art exhibition, or a corporate event, the gallery effortlessly transforms to suit any occasion, providing a blank canvas upon which dreams can be painted. In conclusion, my experience at Linden Art Gallery was nothing short of magical. It's a testament to the power of art to elevate the human experience, and I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone seeking a venue that transcends the ordinary and celebrates the...

Charming, elegant and DIVINE! Best in Melbourne. What a gem. This establishment is a journey to take...from my first glance at mesmerizing beauty and stylish heritage front, boasting well kept garden grounds - to every inch of the building I explored. I felt at peace as I bathed in the energy throughout the space and uplifted. Staff were as friendly as they were tasteful, evidently; as all the works on display simply GRAND. In a nut shell, pure BLISS resonance comes to mind. You just need to see it to capture it! 5...

Grace and I had a fantastic time at the DESIGN FRINGE 2022 opening on Friday 16th September. The artworks were amazing. The artists were so imaginative in creating pieces from recycled materials. It was inspirational. The speeches were also well delivered. I especially found the Aboriginal custodian welcome to be thought provoking and warm. It was a pleasure to enjoy such artworks and be among so many talented people. We are grateful to have been invited.

By far one of the most enjoyable and thought provoking experiences I’ve had at an art gallery. The building itself is very pretty and visually interesting. There are toilets inside this building as well. It was easy to find on foot. The space is temperature controlled and is spacious, adequately lit, and calm. All the exhibitions were well thought out. The staff were friendly.

Interesting art pieces & staging every time I've been and beautiful estate house to explore, love the current Postcards exhibition and could max out the credit card on the works. No pressure to buy, a relaxed and beautiful space and a welcome break in St Kilda which can be gritty.
