Al Tanoor Iraqi Restaurant — Restaurant in Melbourne

Looking for food options to take back to a local friends place for a shared lunch on a brisk winter arvo, Al Tandoor Iraqi restaurant was seemingly a respectable and tasty choice. After perusing the menu for a brief moment we noticed the eftpos not in use sign fixed to the till. Not a deal breaker but a nuisance non the less causing us to deviate our hungry selves to an ATM up the block. After returning and placing what seemed like a fairly standard take away orders we stepped aside to await our orders. What ensued we had definitely not anticipated. Whilst the kitchen staff looked completely over run in preparing the few orders for only four tables and a couple of stray takeway orders, it was the unorganised front of house staff that really looked a shambles. Wrong orders going to wrong tables, items missing, glassware being dropped with a feeling that we had interrupted their social group as they chatted away with orders going unnoticed the pass. We had placed 3 separate orders in total between the four of us and my word, I think we stumped the team. Our orders were completely out of order with no reference to the correlating docket numbers. The first one came out, beautiful. Second one never arrived, the third was ready about 15 minutes later. As we waited for the second order to be ready, it never came. We inquired. Much confusion ensued. They then took our third order off us to then remove half of the bag contents to constitute the second order leaving the third order now incomplete. The then second order was incomplete missing the water and the third order went back to the kitchen to be cooked? We were told a short wait on the remaining portion of the third order. At this point we had been in the shop half and hour - bearing in mind the place was not full. 10 minutes passed and I felt it necessary to raise the question of an ETA on the final order. I reluctantly told 5 more mins and 10 mins later my food was left unattended on the pass before I was finally handed the order without any mention of an apology or thanks for waiting. At this point we had been in this restaurant the best part of 50 minutes and 3/4 of our food was now cold. Me and my friends were extremely disappointed in this experience and warn anyone thinking of dining here unless you have no concept of time or any reasonable expectation of food service. Very bad. The service was horrible. Our waitress was far from friendly in the beginning and very much eluded the vibe that she did not want to be there and couldn’t care less about customers. Which doesn’t make for a pleasant experience, but also doesn’t make or break a restaurant for me.

That is, until it came time to pay. I went to the cashier to ask for some takeaway boxes, and they informed us that EFTPOS wasn’t working, so we would have to pay cash, and pointed us to an ATM outside. I’ve since learned from other reviews that this seems to be a permanent thing, not a short term issue with the machine. Okay fine, so we get up and go to the ATM.

After we’ve paid we go back to our table to find it cleared! Our bags and personal items were still on the table, but the significant amount of food we had left to take home was all gone. We asked them to stop clearing the table and reminded them we had wanted takeaway. They disappeared to the back and after a while the waitress presented a plate to me which looked like bits and pieces of our food. A single plate, when we originally had four.

I looked at the plate for a while, and didn’t say anything while in my head processing what was on it, whether it was all of our food, where it had been retrieved from… The waitress then rudely snapped that it was the same food, and that was all we had left (it wasn’t), with a look on her face like I was the problem. You know when something looks at you like you’re a piece of dirt on their shoe? Like that! I could tell from the other staff member’s reaction, who was shocked and apologetic, that she was out of line, and it wasn’t just in my head.

The waitress eventually walked away and a third staff member arranged some replacement food for us. She was pretty cold when giving it to us too, although she hadn’t been there for the prior interaction so probably had been told I was a Karen or something, who knows. She wasn’t nice. The other staff member apologised again before we left, but overall the place just left a terrible taste in our mouths.

The food was fine. I can’t say anything objectively bad about it, it’s a matter of taste, and it wasn’t the best for me, hence the amount of leftovers! There are plenty of better options around for food of this type, where you will also get...

I am editing my review to tell the staff simindra younan to stop with your dirty tricks by giving me bad reviews make yourself better and raise your standards but you will go cheaper pic attached. OMG what a horrible experience. The restaurant was so dirty there were food all over the place on the floor on the tables. There were flies and place was smelly. There were no staff available to clean the table. They serve us cold tasteless food and forgot to serve drinks. The staff was very rude. Specially the girl on the counter staff dresses were full of flour and dirt. they forgot to service drinks when I went to pay on counter. They added drinks in our bill when I told them you haven’t serve drinks. When we asked for water, desert us, hot water with hot glass and one of the glass was broken and it could have hurt someone. We didn’t eat much because of flies were going in our food. There were flies stuck in the windows. there were no hygiene and cleanliness. It was an awful .We were waiting for it and you have included in the bill.
