Bacash in South Yarra has become an institution, perfectly located next to the beautiful Jardins Botaniques in Melbourne. From the moment you walk in, the warm and welcoming ambiance at the front door makes you feel right at home. The staff are not only très professionnels but also genuinely amicaux. The food is absolument incroyable. Each seafood-based dish was the best seafood dish we have had for years, with the prawn toast, Bouillabaisse soup with red mullet and seafood, and the garfish and prawn nori being standout starters that you definitely shouldn't miss... And then it was all about the John Dory special and John Dory with lemon Beurre Blanc, just wow and a noteworthy mention for the generous seafood marinara that was eye-catching and super savoureux. And the finale to our meal was the superb desserts, and a real star was the passion fruit soufflé—if you get the chance, you have to try it! While dining here is a treat, especially if you indulge in a few nice bottles of vin, every bite is worth it. Just remember to make a reservation, even on weekdays, because this place is popular for a good reason. I’m already looking forward to our next visit to try more from the menu. Bacash is an expérience culinaire inoubliable - highly recommended! 10/10

I had one of the top seafood dining experiences in Melbourne at Bacash. Everything, from the entrees like zucchini flowers to the calamari, was exceptionally well prepared. The flavors in the entrees complemented the seafood beautifully, achieving a great balance. The bread was excellent as always. Moving on to the mains, the marinara was a standout favorite among our group, with someone noting that it can be hard to find a good marinara pasta these days in Melbourne. I tried a bit myself and completely agree! The John Dory was delightful, featuring good flavors and sauces that paired well. I also sampled the steak; it was cooked perfectly, but I found the quality of the meat to be good but not exceptional, though I reminded myself that I was at a seafood restaurant. The sauces accompanying the steak were exceptional, and the potato rosti was incredible. We also had some greens with the fish, which were very refreshing, and the chips were cooked to perfection. The restaurant is located in a cool area near the Tan, making it a perfect spot for a light meal on a lovely summer day.

I dined at Bacash and enjoyed a truly memorable experience on Father’s Day. The food was outstanding — the quail was delicate and well-balanced, the John Dory was cooked to perfection with a refined touch, and the steak was rich and deeply satisfying. Each dish reflected thoughtful preparation and high-quality ingredients, reinforcing Bacash’s reputation for excellence. One area that could be improved is the service. At the start of the evening, it took around ten minutes for sparkling water to arrive, and the staff seemed very fatigued, which made the menu introduction feel somewhat rushed and minimal. Their demeanor came across as more serious than engaging, and it gave the impression that they were simply too tired to fully showcase the menu and experience. That being said, everything else was wonderful, and the food more than compensated. Bacash remains a restaurant I will return to often, and I would still recommend it highly for its cuisine and overall dining quality.

I take my client every year to have lunch at Bacash. Specially for the Bacash Oysters. Today 10/01/2020, my client and I had the entrée and were waiting for the Main Meal. We were talking business. I don't drink, but the client likes his white wine and was served it. As the meal was delayed, we kept talking about business and we request a wine top up and the main waitress, gave him a meagre portion. We just look at each other, so I request a bit more for the client. So when our main meal came, and it was served by the chef, Michael Bacash, I complain about the meagre drop. I also told him if the client wants to pay, and he is not intoxicated, I could see no problem. The meal came. My client fish was nice, but my steak with red wine sauce was terrible. The meat itself was tender, but the sauce, it was like burned red wine. The same for the Mushrooms pie (I can only describe as pie). Michael the owner, return to give me a lecture, of how much he could or should serve. I think either he was on the wrong foot or his wife slept in tight jeans or it's a culture thing for him. For the last 3 years , there was not a problem. But this year, yes he made a problem. The waitress, was very nice, but did not understand wines and if the fish were fresh from the day. I, for one will never come back or recommend. For the price, the service is ZERO.The food is a hit and run. The French fries were excellent, together with the 5 leaves of lettuce, for this you don't need to go to BACASH it can be for LESSCASH. I know understand Roxanne review. Michael is an agressive person. I think...

I am so disgusted with what I witnessed on my visit this past Saturday. The way the staff treated a table of customers next to us. First the waitress who told a lady that "The fish that was ordered was perfectly cooked". Then the chef came out at the end of their main meal being cleared from the table. He then began to berate the lady at the table and told her that she would be charged for the meal she had ordered. I heard her say "I never asked for that". Then it seemed like the Cook/owner instructed staff for the bill to be set to the table, refusing to offer any further service. Shocking behavior. I have since found out the chef is the owner. Even more disgusted.

In response to the owner's reply; The only Escalation was from You. We heard the Lady simply say she found the fish a bit dry, nothing else. No mention about removing it from the bill. You either made that up yourself or your staff did. The group seemed to have a good dinner and catch up, as did we all. Your response was inappropriate. You ploncked yourself down next to the lady and my partner sitting next to her on the bench, and began to berate her. Your bruised ego is what caused the disturbance. She said to you that there was No mention of having it removed. But you raised your voice for all to hear. Your comment about a pub meal explains your...

From the moment we walked in, the young waiter Max was excellent, he was attentive, considerate, and professional. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Chef, who managed to turn what should have been a special family occasion into an embarrassing disaster.

It became clear very quickly that the chef was completely out of his depth. Faced with the challenge of cooking a few average eye fillets, he must have got flustered and thought it was right to abandon his kitchen and approach a baby crawling on the ground shouting “This is not a McDonald’s”. This behaviour was not only childish, it was pathetic.

No true professional would ever humiliate their guests in this way. His tantrum embarrassed his staff far more than us, they were left apologising multiple times for his behaviour, which only highlighted and spoke volumes for his cowardly character.

I wish I could say the chef should stick to cooking, because people skills and basic professionalism are clearly beyond him, however the food wasn’t even anything special. For someone supposedly leading a kitchen, he showed less composure than the baby he was so offended by.

This was a shame for the wait staff, who did everything right, but it only takes one flustered, arrogant chef to ruin the entire experience, and that’s exactly...
