Bridge Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Melbourne

Absolutely horrible service and a complete rip off. Was having a glass of wine with my husband at the lovely wine bar next door and so we thought we’d order some fish and chips from this shop. I tried to order a salmon pack and a second one but with sweet potato fries The girl at the counter very rudely and tartly said “we can’t do that, no”. I asked why not. She said in the same tone “I can’t do that. I can’t charge the same price”. At no time did I indicate that I assumed this. I tried again. I said that I was fine to have the second pack charged as individual items I’m ok with that. She asked what salads (yes plural) I’d like and I picked two different ones. She gave me the buzzer alert tag and off I went back to the wine bar next door. Buzzer goes off, I go to the counter and take the food bags and salad cartons to my table outside. My husband opens it up and says there’s half the order is missing. There was only one piece of salmon, one serve of overcooked sweet potato chips and the two salads. I went back into the shop and asked where the rest of the order was (nicely). The same girl, very rudely again, said “that’s what you ordered, nothing is missing”. I couldn’t believe it. I was charged $42 and change for this and delivered this hideous attitude. With her angry face she went to one of the guys in the kitchen part of the shop. He came out and just said very flatly “Grill’s off”. I was so furious I just walked out. If you want fish and chips, there are much better options in the same street where you’ll be treated with respect and your patronage...

Their food is great so long as there is no substantial wait. Im giving 1 star because I was there the other night. It was very busy with lines in keeping with covid rules. No one came out to say after waiting 30mins in the line it would be a minimum 60min wait for simple fish and chips for 2 people. There were heaps of orders waiting for pick up and lots of people outside waiting but nothing was coming out. One guy asked for his order 3 times before they found it had been ready the whole time. After ordering 2 pieces fish we went and did something for 50mins and came back 10mins minimum earlier than told too. It was ready when we got there. We live a 2 minute drive from there, once home and on the table, 5/8mins after pick up, the food was awful. Like it had been ready for a very long time. Cold and soggy. The fish, the chips. The chips were cold, flourery and soggy. The fish was cold and whatever they put on it before grilling had gone cold and very off putting. The fish had an awful texture from going from hot to slowly cold in a sealed box. Also, all the salads were kept in with the hot food orders and our salad was warm and limp. My best friend and I were having a drink at mordi cellar door and decided to grab our dinner from here, I would usually go to Tommy Ruff as I’m a huge fan of their food, but we decided to try something different. I ordered the fish of the day, which I requested to be grilled, and had a Greek salad, tartare sauce, lemon wedges and chips. It was a huge serving! And so so so good! The grilled fish was seasoned to perfection and cooked so well, the Greek salad was fresh and had heaps of ingredients other than just lettuce and the whole meal exceeded my expectations by far! For $19.50 it was amazing and it was better value than most fish and chip packs I’ve had before. The staff were friendly and we were given buzzers which we could take back to our table at the cellar door, which was not only convenient but also such a great system! Will definitely order...
