Brotherhood Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

I recently visited the cafe and, while I enjoyed the food and ambience, my overall experience was unfortunately marred by the behavior of a front-of-house staff member. During my visit, I noticed that she greeted non-Asian customers warmly but was noticeably less welcoming when serving Asian customers. When my friend and I attempted to order a burger shortly before noon, she informed us that the item was only available on the lunch menu, and although we accepted this, her facial expressions came across as dismissive and unwelcoming.

Additionally, when I questioned a miscellaneous charge of $2.50 on my bill—applied to the gluten-free bread I had ordered—I was met with a brusque explanation that it was a standard charge although it was no where mentioned on the menu. I felt singled out and embarrassed by her tone and the public nature of the exchange. While another staff member did step in to assist, the initial interaction left a lasting negative impression.

Overall, despite the quality of the food and a pleasant overall setting, the discriminatory behaviour and unprofessional conduct I experienced have led me to reconsider returning...

We stayed in an apartment above this cafe for a mini family getaway. Went out to get coffee on our first morning and came across this little gem straight away. Literally didn’t visit any other cafe/coffee venue for the remainder of our stay because we loved this place so much! Coffee was great. Food was amazing! And service was wonderful! What an incredible little gem we found! We were thrilled when we learnt we could get all the meals as a takeaway option. We have 3 little children who won’t sit still. So being able to get our meals takeaway, and eat them in our apartment was quite literally the saving grace of our holiday! Our meals included the following: Eggs Benedict with salmon French toast Grilled chicken ciabatta Smashed Avo Big breakfast Nutella Pancakes house made muffins All were amazing!!! We will definitely visit again if we’re ever back...

Really wanted to like this place, very conveniently located to where my apartment is and not too busy, but maybe that should’ve been a sign. The service was good, quick, friendly, and easy. But the food I can’t say the same about. Got a very simple meal of scrambled eggs on toast and the eggs were very over done and had a weird old taste to them, the bread was soggy with butter, and it was barely warm when it came out. The coffee wasn’t bad, not sure if I’ve just been spoiled with very good coffee elsewhere but would be fine with getting a takeaway coffee here if I’m in a rush. Overall kind of just upset with the experience, food in Melbourne is supposed to be good and this doesn’t live up to that standard, really wish I could leave a positive review but left very...
