Impressive atmosphere which is inevitable when you are located on the water with gorgeous floor to ceiling glass windows. The intention here was to create a casual dining experience with superb ambiance so you can get a relatively inexpensive meal and still enjoy the stunning view. This fills the previous gap in the market given the surrounding restaurants mostly steer towards fine dining. We ordered a couple of cocktails to start and were suitably impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed my passionfruit Moscow mule. It had a strong ginger beer taste which worked well with the mint and was very refreshing. The espresso martini and apple pie cocktail were also well executed. We commenced the meal with the calamari entree which was very fresh. There was much to chose from for mains so we decided to share the seafood paella, open souvlaki and grilled chicken dishes. The paella was well cooked and generously portioned. It was visually stunning which was a common theme across all the dishes. The souvlaki has some extremely tender slow cooked lamb shoulder and was another large serving. All of the food is certainly very good value given the reasonable cost and sizeable serves (not to mention location location location). The grilled chicken dish was very flavoursome and kind of a diy taco dish. All quite good choices to share. Dessert was an almost unbearably tough choice but we eventually settled on the deconstructed cheesecake and violet crumble. The cheesecake appealed to me as it had a honey joy crumb (a great nostalgic treat for me) and it was a perfect silky texture. Violet crumble piqued my interest as I knew it was presented pot plant style which was quite intriguing. This was rather unique and definitely had wow factor. The flavours were strong but complimented each other when eaten together. Overall I was pretty impressed. Cargo does a casual meal...
Read moreUpdating my review from a few months ago. Cargo is an extremely reliable bar/restaurant that seems to run like a very well-oiled machine and never lets you down. Nice choice of seating options - full sun by the waterside, picnic tables with umbrellas for shade, a balcony with heaters overhead, or indoors for particularly hot/cold days. Food and drink is always great and service is always prompt with plenty of staff on hand. Lots of tasty vegetarian/vegan options and by far the best pizzas we've found in the city (with an actually good vegan cheese). You can order conveniently from your phone using a QR code system so no waiting around for service to notice you. They’ve added some new items to the menu over the past 6-12 months which are our absolute favourites including the Chick Chick Boom (salty, crispy fried chickpeas). It doesn’t matter if you usually like chickpeas or not (I’m not usually a fan), you can’t not like these ones. And also the Death by Cookie dessert (freshly cooked, still-warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream) which is ridiculously good. The place is pet-friendly so you often see local dogs enjoying the sun outside with their mums and dads. Next door is their sister restaurant which is also great and offers a different style of cuisine. Sometimes we start at one restaurant and then finish at the other depending what food and drinks we feel like, but Cargo is the...
Read moreThis place holds a special spot in my heart. They managed to cater for the gluten and dairy intolerant without the fuss – making a team lunch for my milestone birthday a massive hit.
Located on the water, cargo has been a feature of the docklands area for quite some time now. I’ve heard many good things about it and was immediately tempted to try it out.
Their cuisine looked delectable and their prices astonishing. Especially for the docklands area where too many places bank on the fact that they are in the docklands area and thus instantly put their cheapest menu option as a flat $20.
There were so many choices here, I will have to come visit them, again and again, to try it all out.
I chose the pulled pork burger.
Now let me tell you. When you can get meat, to be as tender as Cargo has cooked it, matched with the infused mint sauce, you have made it. Made it in what? I don’t quite know. Perhaps the word I’m looking for is content. You are just content.
And what was even more interesting was that the rest of the table went quiet. That’s the sign of true success.
If you’re in the area and are looking for a good meal with a stunning view, then go no further than Cargo. Let your ships come ashore, you know you have made it home with a hearty...
