Honestly, I’d say this is one of the best fusion restaurants I’ve been to in some time now. The Docklands Den has a plate for every taste; for an appetizer, you can indulge yourself in their Nepalese momos (little dumplings which you can have deep-fried or steamed with sweet & spicy chutney). For your main course, you can dive into their deliciously messy American-style beef or fried chicken burgers (they offer combo deals with really well made fries), you can err more towards their light, Italian-inspired chicken parmigiana varieties (which they have a very abundant outset of toppings & flavor profiles), you could dine on their rich South Asian-style curries & fall-apart tender beef ribs with rice… or if you’re adventurous enough, you could try their signature camel meat burger (it really doesn’t taste as bad as you’d think, homie). For dessert, you could scarf down their fluffy Mediterranean loukoumades, their delightfully crisp Spanish-style churros (complete with sauces like chocolate ganache & pistachio cream). There’s so much more, including a wholly separate breakfast menu & a dozen or so beverage choices to complement your meal… every single permutation of which is entirely halal!
I highly recommend to everyone, not just those of Islamic faith, to drop a pin right here on their map for now or later. This place is a must-visit, I feel. Be prepared to wait for your food during busier hours, though — after all, this is a restaurant where the honest staff cook your food fresh to order & not a fast food outlet where your palm-size burgers are warmed in hotboxes for 30 seconds or so before being served to you. If it takes too long for your food by their standards, they’ll compensate you with free complementary items (in our case, churros). Just don’t go in expecting these things, even when you get your food in a...
Read moreThis inconspicuous, hidden gem situated in a small laneway in the midst of Docklands, VIC, must be visited if you’re expecting great service, great food within a contemporary and clean setting.
As we’re on a short vacation here in Victoria, we weren’t familiar with the area we were staying in and hence, done some research for a food joint nearby and, lo and behold, Docklands Den popped up.
To our surprise, we walked in 10 minutes after closing time, and yet, we were still greeted with enthusiasm and excitement, so hence, we merely assumed they were open. We apologised to the gentleman who served us and expressed to leave, to which he responded by stating he was more than happy to host, and serve us, despite it being closing time.
We ordered our food and realised that there was a basketball shootout arcade game to the rear of the restaurant and immediately got up to play a few rounds! Great way to keep the kids (even adults) occupied.
I ordered the ‘Chook on the Dock Parma’ and was astonished by the size of the parmigiana! Look at the image below and see for yourself! Thankfully, the food tasted amazing, the salad was doused in a lovely vinaigrette, and the chips were fresh and hot.
We were also given 5 complimentary Lokmades donuts that were drenched in thick, chocolate sauce with bueno toppings. He (manager/owner) won us over that very night for his compassion and patience.
Great service and great food deserves recognition, so please do yourself a favour and visit...
Read moreLocated walking distance from the Docklands, this little cafe/restaurant is a must try. All the food is halal including hand slaughtered chicken. We visited in Ramadan to check out the iftar/dinner menu. We were pleasantly surprised that the starters also tasted really good, specially the Momos and chicken wings. Also includes roohafza and ice tea. Then came our mains. We had the beef ribs, lamb shanks, and chicken Maryland. All mains are served with rice topped with nuts and garden salad. Serving sizes are big for all dishes so you'll definitely be full. The ribs and shanks were cooked perfectly, the meat was tender and full of flavour. The rice and garden salad were also delicious. The chicken Maryland was a bit disappointing since it was cooked well but just had a lot of spices so we didn't enjoy the flavour. It wasn't spicy, but too much 'masala'. This is the only reason for not giving 5 stars. For dessert they served lukomades with vanilla icecream. They were fresh and delicious and a perfect end to the feast. You can also have masala tea as part of the deal. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely visit again to try the regular menu which is extensive. There is also space available to pray. Fahad and his team are very welcoming and I highly recommend...
