It was unfortunate that we decided to come back. The chiken rice was above average, a tad too crispy but eatable for adults yet the opposite for children as it was on the level of 'hardening'. The 'Bun cha Ha Noi' was sadly terrible... At first, it was noticeable that the meats were covered by those tiny little black dots, something that were the result of the crispy process that went too far, to the point...burnt to crisp... We asked to return the dish or exchange for something else but the cook denied and took it away to 'fix'. It came back...with less black-ish parts. Not the exact word to describe but the black chunks were removed, unfortunately the little black crisps stayed. Ignoring the medical researches and evidences that may prove the relation between ultra heated foods and colon cancer, it was typically hard to eat the coal (clearly exaggerated, they only covered the meat!) for a picky person like myself. The last drop of this dish was the vermicelli that was too dry and hard. Meaning they bought the dried off-the-self vermicelli but forgot to boil it properly. The result: we threw away the whole dish, or at least we left it for them to throw it away. It took 5 minutes to enjoy the excitement of wasting food (sarcasm)! It was a lovely environment that someone may have the whole empty restaurant to enjoy in the afternoon, yet the dish reflected the after-covid effect where pricings are picking up on so many things. The restaurant tried to keep the pricings down, which is a nice thing, yet the quality had gone to the ...beach. We took away the chicken rice btw. 3 stars for the rice, 0 for the second dish, on average 1.5 but I'll...
Read moreBun Cha Co Dao is Vietnamese restaurant located on Nicholson St, Footscray. It’s specialty and namesake is the traditional dish originating from Hanoi, Bún chả, featuring grilled pork (bun), vermicelli noodles (cha), herbs, pickled veg and dipping sauce.
⭐️ #23 Bun Cha Nem - This is my order every time, it has tasty grilled pork and patties as well as the crispy Hanoi style spring rolls, which are almost identical to what I tried in Vietnam! Sometimes the sauce can be bland. ✔️ #38 Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong - More of a bowl style dish, with grilled pork, noodles, carrots, cucumbers, pork, spring rolls, peanuts and fresh herbs. We swap the regular spring rolls for the Hanoi style. Its pretty large, we do wish for more meat. ✔️ #39 Bun Bo La Lot - beef wrapped in betel leaf, chargrilled and delicious.
Local to us, we come here often for a satisfying meal at a reasonable price and the service is always very friendly. One day we might try other dishes from the menu. Where do you get...
Read more3.5 Stars ⭐️ I quite like this place even though it’s a bit different from the other Vietnamese restaurants. They seemed to specialize in Bun Cha, as their name suggested but we were craving for noodle soup because we had a cold, so I ordered bun Rieu and hubby ordered pho. We did order a Bun Cha to share for the kids (so I can try some bahahahahaha)
The Bun Cha is really yummy, the pork meat has a nice chargrilledflavour and the veggies and herbs are super fresh.
My Bun rieu was nice and warming as well, it has a fried soft shell crab in it but it was a touch fishy. Really comforting and just hit the spot though.
Hubby’s pho was ok, and there was no herbs for his for some reason, only deep fried dough (yau teow?!) that was kinda yummy but not what we used to.
We also got some crab spring rolls which was a bit fishy and a bit too oily.
Ohhhh by the way, try their corn drink- it’s different but...
