Cambridge Cafe — Restaurant in Melbourne

We had limited time and just wanted a quick coffee and a snack today. Short of time, we walked in here without checking the cafe rating. I wish we had had time to check. The snacks on offer looked pretty ordinary and generic overall. We chose a brownie which was just ok. Our coffees were just ok too and nothing special unfortunately. This cafe is in a prime spot with extensive seating inside and out on the street. It feels like it should be a really active and vibrant place but isn’t, or not while we visited anyway. The decor looks rather limp and tired. That’s how the place itself feels overall, although the service was pleasant and I did like the chill out mix that was playing. My wife and I called in for a coffee and toastie after a nearby medical appointment. Coffee was excellent and the toastie was excellent too. On a cold Melbourne day it really hit the spot. They had a heater on and the front of house person was friendly and helpful. But better is to come. We left a mobile on the table. Realised it some way down the freeway and turned back. Sure enough. There is was waiting for us with a smile. Cannot say enough good words about the Cambridge Cafe, for their coffee, food, service and honesty. Oh by the way, the prices were really good too so...

extremely rude service, had to pay 50c to use card. my pie was microwaved for me. After questioning the heating method, waiter proceeded to touch my pie to see if I was in fact telling the truth that it was very soft. yay some more microwaving for free....
