Just had a really awful experience with a really rude staff member. I ordered through the Mr yum app which advised it was about 21-26 mins prep time for food. I put my order through and proceeded to drive over from Footscray. When I arrived the woman told me, quite glibly that it was my fault as they would text me when the order was ready. I tried to explain that I was on a short lunch break and that seemed unreasonable given the app specified the time food would take when I ordered. She became really defensive and was like it's not my fault. I'd never said it was and I said that to her and told that this created a bad customer experience. She then Said " well obviously we've given them feedback", not obvious to me and that I would just have to wait. it was so awful. I really liked this Brand, don't know how keen I am to return with such rude service. I never yelled or blamed her, I was just frustrated because of my time constraints, which was obviously no concern to her. Also the kitchen was empty with no meals being prepared at the time. I just would have like some desire on her part to help me fix the situation rather than just assigning blame to me.
Regarding the reply, the restaurant had about 3 people in it at the time. I never yelled or called anyone a name. I was in a hurry, not abusive. That kind of slander is disgusting, good luck to your business, treating...
Read moreA group of friends and I dined here on the 5th Dec. Most of us eat meat, but we were all satisfied with the vegetarian/vegan food. I ordered the tofu asada taco, the black bean taco along with trippy loaded fries, a salad and drank the tamarind margarita, classic margarita and sangria. The tofu asada taco and the trippy fries with their special seasoning is so tasty!! My favourite drink was the tamarind margarita!! Try that drink - it’s delicious 😋 Then in the same week, on the 9th December, I went back and ordered 2x jugs of the tamarind margarita, 1x jug of the sangaria, trippy fries, corn chips with salsa, guacamole, various dipping sauces, and a container of asada tofu…All as a takeaway order to bring to a Christmas party at Melbourne Calisthenics. My big order was ready on time. The staff at Trippy Taco were so friendly and gave me a much larger container of tofu than I was expecting and they offered to help me carry out all the items to my car. I had brought my own jugs to collect the drinks. My fellow gym members loved the tamarind margarita too, saying they enjoyed the mixture of the sweet and sour / tart flavour. The vegetarians/vegans also really appreciated the tofu and took some home with them. There is also a very good looking Colombian guy who works there with nice eyes lol. I would definitely come back to Trippy Taco for the tasty food and...
Read moreI’ve heard people rave about this place, and feel somewhat deceived by all the reviews on this page suggesting Trippy Taco is remotely a) cheap b) great vegetarian and/or c) great Mexican food. In an area like Fitzroy, I’m baffled that Trippy Taco thrives selling sad reheated tacos for $7.50 a pop. In summary, if you’re tossing up between Trippy Taco and going across to the supermarket to make your own, definitely do the latter.
The menu itself was pretty uninspired but that was nothing compared to the dry and flakey tacos that came out, filled only with bland black bean and tofu fillings, lettuce and mozzarella cheese. I generally don’t go for additional fillings, but considered it in this case until I realised that any further ingredients attracted a hefty fee of $3 - $5 dollars each, which I knew would only further add to my disappointment at the mounting cost of my first bad taco experience. The only redeeming feature was the fries (which were very good) and the condiments we drowned our tacos in.
In a place like Melbourne, you’ve got to do better than that for tacos, especially when they’re definitely no cheaper than every other Mexican place, all of which have put more thought into the ingredients and freshness of...
