"Tram 11 to Breakfast Narnia"
Hop on Tram 11 to West Preston — and no, this isn’t a setup for a hipster folktale — because at the final stop lies Cheshire, a café so hidden you'd think it was in witness protection. But don't be fooled by its low-key vibe; this place is bold. I’m talking about Eggs Benedict with apple sauce. Yes. Apple sauce. On purpose.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Why ruin a classic?" But clearly, someone at Cheshire woke up one morning and said, “Let’s confuse people before 10 a.m.” And somehow… it works. It’s confusing. It’s delightful. It’s like your taste buds are on a rollercoaster designed by a very enthusiastic fruit farmer.
The hollandaise and apple combo hits you like a weird but strangely successful rom-com. First you're like, “This will never work,” and five bites later you're sobbing into your flat white, wondering how you've lived your whole life without it.
Getting there requires some commitment — namely, trusting your Myki card won’t decide to betray you mid-journey like an emotionally unavailable ex. But trust me, it's worth the emotional rollercoaster and the questionable glances from locals who clearly don't trust people getting off at the last stop for food.
Would I recommend it? Only if you're into delicious food, bold choices, and mornings that start with a hint of “what the actual hell is this?” and end with “I want five more, please.”
Eggs Benedict has left the chat — Cheshire just...
Read moreThis is the first time in my life I’ve ever bothered to leave a review as I find the idea of it almost narcissistic and always cringe listening to people whinge and whine about the fact their coffee arrived cold from door dash. Anyway, without further a due, here is my opinion on the Cheshire Cafe.
Firstly I would like to note I have never eaten in here, I have only used delivery services. The food has every time been absolutely fantastic! The eggs Benny is a must, eggs are always poached well and not clear and gooey. I find that the ingredients themselves are of a high quality too, whether it be the smoked bacon 🥓 or the eggs, which are nice and yolky. Despite the food having to travel twenty minutes to my house it always still tastes great and is made with care and side notes/requests aka dietary requirements are always listened to. I’ve also tried the burger and chips. It is simple but exceptional at the same time because of the quality beef patty they use! Definitely worth a try..
One day I will make the voyage to this great place so I can sit and dine. Can only imagine how good the food is when brought out fresh. Thanks to the staff of the Cheshire cafe for making such a great effort, it certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed on myself and I’m sure...
Read moreI decided to bring my dad to Cheshire on a whim for lunch today. I found the cafe on Google, and was impressed by the good reviews. As soon as we entered the cafe, we were greeted by extremely polite and cheerful staff - a great start already!
My dad ordered the Eggs Benny with Bacon and a Hot Chocolate, and I ordered the Vietnamese Noodle Salad. My dad is an eggs Benny enthusiast, and he was blown away by the dish! He said it’s one of the best he’s ever had — the Hollandaise sauce was smooth and creamy and they are super generous with the bacon too. The hot chocolate was lovely, warm, and not too sweet which we really appreciated.
My Vietnamese Noodle Salad was also super tasty. It was clean, light and made for the perfect healthy lunch. The tofu was marinated to perfection and the dressing for the rice noodles was the perfect balance of sweet, salty and savoury.
All in all, such a lovely cafe that’s run by lovely people, nestled in the heart of Preston. Absolutely worth the trip down from South Morang! We will definitely be back....
