CHI BAO — Restaurant in Melbourne

Hands down, the worst customer experience I have ever had in my entire life. Usually great, I have my two favourite dishes I order the same every time. However today when I asked for the wonton soup, I was given the dumplings with no soup. So I call to explain there’s been a mix up with my order and the staff member screamed at me for the entire call, screaming over the top of me, not once, countless times, I had to shout to be heard. Told me she was hurt because she could remember repeating my wonton soup order back to me (incorrectly, as pork dumplings, even though I said to her there’s not usually a choice in fillings they’re usually just pork? I told her I did not have a menu in front of me). She inferred I was lying to her four times!! I was aghast. She then repeated herself over and over like a broken record, doubling down, that she was sorry ‘I’ got it wrong. Why on earth would I get my order wrong, when I repeatedly order the same dish??? I’ll never order from them again and I’ll never recommend them under any circumstances. When you get home to discover you have the wrong dish it’s disappointing enough, then to be traumatised by the staff, just U N B E L I E V A B L E. Oh, and the bok choy had grit in it, yep, sand. Blaghhhh!

We ordered a meal through a meal delivery service (not realising that Chi Bao do free local delivery!) and there was a monumental stuff up where our food went somewhere with someone but never arrived at our front door. After waiting for about an hour for the order that was still "pending" on my app, I called Chi Bao directly to see if they were able to shed some light on the issue, and not only were they across what was happening, but they had set things in motion to investigate what had happened to the food they had entrusted to a delivery driver. I'll admit by this point I was pretty hangry, but the person who answered the phone was so lovely, understanding and apologetic (for an issue that was outside of their hands). She offered to remake our order and assured me it would be at our door within 30 minutes - free of charge. It arrived in 20 mins, and was absolutely delicious. Chi Bao went above and beyond. And their food was fantastic. I would highly recommend everything their menu has to offer (I've eaten in the restaurant a couple of times and been equally impressed with the fresh, tasty options. The long anticipated Chi Bar just opened in Yarraville. I gave it a go for my lunch break and it found the place rather disappointing. When I entered (alone), the restaurant had 7 tables out of which only 2 were occupied (2 guests each). Furthermore, each table can be split into two should the restaurant get busy, so really, they had 10 tables free on a quiet mid-week afternoon, but the insensitive waitress asked if I minded sitting at the bar table with an uncomfortable stool. I told her I do mind and I'll sit at a table and if it gets busy I'm happy to move. Naturally it didn't, I was in and out of the restaurant before the other two table finished their meal. I ordered 1 dish - duck fried noodles - which cost $16.80. It was greasy and way too salty for my liking. Worse of all, it had, but 5 or so tiny slivers of duck. I felt dissed and ripped off.
