My 80 year old dad told me he wants to have a look inside this shop, as we were strolling around the neighborhood. He doesnt eat yogurt (vegan or not) desserts. He was impressed by the people waiting outside, so I tried to open the door and let him in only to be stopped by someone who raised their arm in front of my chest denying entry, saying we have to wait in line. I told this person that my dad just wants to have a look inside the shop and we got a sterile answer to wait in line together with the most fake and toxic smile I have ever seen. This behaviour does not belong in Yarraville, this is not the CBD, Firzroy or Carlton with bouncers denying entry in a neighborhood shop. We moved on as I was trying to find an explanation for this behaviour. How can you explain to an 80 year old that he is not allowed to enter an ice cream shop? Unless you expect him to wait in line just to have a look inside. The commercialization of veganism and community is here. This is the explanation I gave my dad. You need to buy if you want to have a look. Luckily there are other shops around, we met other local owners who invited us into their shops with genuine smiles, talked about themselves and their businesses with no pressure to buy anything even though they were busy. We made friends and of course, at the end, we did buy something showing support to a really small community with an important history in Melbourne. This is how Yarraville is suppossed to be, warm hearted and welcoming, as it used to be. Goje, keep your toxic attitude out of this...
Read moreSmall order fee? Nah.
I am a long time fan of Goje - have been here about 10-15 times and always love the food. Excited to discover Goje is delivering in lockdown 2.
Ordered a regular sized dessert + 2 chocolate peanut butter things. Came out to $14.40. Expensive? Sure - but you're paying for a premium dessert.
Then I discover that due to the order being under $15 I'm being charged a $3 "small order fee" in addition to $5 delivery.
So it comes to $22 for 1 regular-sized frozen yoghurt with a 3 minute delivery time. That just feels unfair.
I tried to find some way of bringing the order above $15 but we're already purchasing 2 of the peanut butter things and don't really want to increase the size.
Why penalise a small order anyway? I'm guessing there is some economics here - perhaps the delivery service charges you for delivery and you want to pass that cost onto the customer. Perhaps you're doing such excellent business that you're happy to disincentivise a "small" order in the hopes I'll order 2 desserts.
I'd like to politely suggest management reconsider the small order penalty - you may be one of the best vegan dessert shops in Melbourne, but how many people want to pay $22 for a small frozen yoghurt during the most uncertain economic time in 90 years?
And with JobKeeper tapering off I can't imagine I'll be the only person who says nah to a $3 penalty on orders...
Read moreORDERED: 🍨 Frozen mango yoghurt (with housemade organic coconut yoghurt) and vanilla & coconut (with housemade organic coconut yoghurt) and coconut jelly, halva, cornflake crunch and housemade candied walnut toppings.
I spent $8.93 here.
REVIEW: 🌱 Goje is 100% plant based, with focus on fitting everyone's dietary requirements. The yoghurt is delicious, and the particular flavours I picked (mango and vanilla & coconut) is refreshing, perfect for an after dinner dessert which leaves you feeling light. 👩❤️👩 The girls are also super friendly, offering testers to try some of the yoghurt in a smaller cup - which really helped me in my decision making.
There's a plethora of healthy toppings from varying seeds and nuts like chai seeds and flaked almonds to slightly less healthy, like coconut jelly or chocolate chip cookies. Out of the four toppings I tried, the halva was my favourite. It had an amazing crumbly, fudge-like consistency with almonds and sesame that really added richness to an otherwise light yoghurt.
Highly recommend goje. One of my favourite frozen yoghurts around if you're in the...
