Restaurant Review: Chulha N Chimney, Healesville
During our recent drive to Marysville, we made a planned lunch stop in Healesville and were pleasantly surprised to find Chulha N Chimney, an Indian restaurant that was open and welcoming. Given how hungry we all were, it felt like the perfect find!
Atmosphere & Ambience
We were a group of four adults and two children, and luckily, the restaurant wasn’t busy at the time. We almost had the entire place to ourselves, which made the experience even more relaxed and enjoyable. The décor was warm, tasteful, and inviting, with well-spaced tables that gave a sense of comfort and privacy. It seems like even when the restaurant is full, it wouldn’t feel crowded.
A little funny incident happened when my daughter tried to sit down—one of those family moments we’ll keep as our secret memory. 😊
Food & Taste
We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and every item turned out to be spot on in terms of flavor and spice level. Here’s what we enjoyed: • Kids’ Fries (for our son) • Tawa Chicken and Chilli Paneer (Entrées) • Kadhai Chicken, Dhaba Chicken, Peas Pulao, Butter Naan, and Aloo Paratha (Main Course)
Each dish was delicious, well-prepared, and packed with authentic flavors. The spice levels were perfectly balanced for all of us, including the kids.
Service
The staff were incredibly courteous and attentive throughout our visit. They came by several times to check if everything was to our liking and whether we needed anything else. Their warm hospitality really added to the overall experience.
Final Thoughts
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Chulha N Chimney. From the lovely ambience to the delicious food and excellent service, everything came together for a wonderful dining experience. We wish the team great success and look forward to visiting again on our next trip to...
Read moreThe food here is delicious, especially the chicken saag. I can also recommend the tandoori chicken, although ask for the red sauce (when we ordered this same dish a second time, the sauce came out yellow and didn't taste the same as we had expected based on our first visit).
As a local, I really wish I could recommend this place more highly. However, the last time we were back, we had brought some family over as we wanted to continue supporting Chulha and Chimney – but to my surprise, our table was the last table to be served. Other tables filled after we'd arrived had their orders taken before ours, and I had to get up several times to ask for water and if someone could take our order. The explanation we were given was because we were local to Healesville, and so could have more understanding/patience when others new to the restaurant were being served before us. I was pretty upset by this as we had family who were visiting us here in the Valley.
I believe we waited close to an hour before being able to order food, and making eye contact with staff to get their attention was difficult too.
If you aren't in a rush and happy for a potentially lengthy wait, the food here is tasty with great spice levels. I'd be keen to try the other Indian restaurant down the road given my most recent experience here, but I'd be happy to update my experience if the...
Read moreI recently lunch at Chulha and Chimney, and the experience was truly delightful. Here are my thoughts on the dishes I ordered:
Sarso Da Saag: This traditional Punjabi dish was cooked to perfection. The mustard greens were slow-cooked with a blend of spices, ginger, garlic, and ghee, resulting in a rich and aromatic puree. The flavors were well-balanced, and the saag was served with a dollop of butter, which added to its richness. Makki Di Roti: The cornbread was freshly baked and served hot. It had a slightly crispy crust and a soft interior. The roti was perfectly paired with the Sarso Da Saag, and the combination was absolutely delightful. Lassi: The yogurt-based drink was refreshing and helped cool down the palate after the spicy saag. Mix Veg: The mixed vegetable dish was flavorful and well-cooked. The vegetables were tender, and the spices were well-balanced. Tandoori Roti: The tandoori roti was freshly baked and had a nice char. It was perfect for sopping up the flavorful sauces. Garlic Naan: The naan was flavorful and had a nice garlicky taste. It was a great accompaniment to the meal.
Overall, my experience at Chulha and Chimney was excellent. The food was delicious, and the service was attentive. If you're looking for authentic Punjabi cuisine, I would highly recommend this...
