Read moreOur excitement to visit this eatery comes from three words: Buffet, Cheap and SriLankan.
Not quite sure of the food we were still ready to give it a go for the price. An 'unlimited' good spread (choice of Meats and Veggies) for merely $15 is a steal and thus, we were fine if we would have been disappointed.
Yet, Citrus scores high on taste, quality and options for the price you are paying for a Buffet.
Papadums, Chutney, Salad, Pickles, Rice, Pulav, Daal, Chicken Curry, Lamb Curry, Beans Curry, Lentil Curry, Beef Curry, etc at that price...and that too TASTY is amazing. The mango lassi was good and you pay extra for it.
Honestly, Citrus is the most underrated and overly criticised eatery we have come across.
Get your basics right fellow Zomatians. The family owned and family run (from cooking to washing, everything is done by the family members) eatery can either provide an amazing service for that kind of priced meal with lesser spread or service can be little slow and spread as big as it is now for that price. You cannot have the cake and eat it too. So yes, waiting is necessary. Service is slow but WARM. There can be delays but no one leaves hungry. Food re-fills could be slow but it's worth waiting. The family tries their sincere...
Read moreIncredible value, at $15 for a large takeaway vegan meal that includes 2 big scoops of rice, 4 vegetable dishes (from green beans in a coconut sauce, green mango curry, lentils, potatoes, and pumpkin; all gluten free), and 2 condiments (from coconut sambal, chilli, pineapple chutney, mango chutney, pickled lime, and kale). It comes with a bag of delicious mini papadams.
We chose all the veggies except the lentils, and everything was delicious — especially the pumpkin dish, which had a fantastic texture and flavour. The pineapple condiment was also great.
Staff were nice, although for a vegan-forward restaurant, they were not very well informed about veganism: they couldn't name which desserts, if any, were vegan, and offered us jelly (with gelatin) and, later, fried rice (with egg). If you're vegan, be careful and double (or even triple, which we had to do) check everything.
The atmosphere is lovely, although to enjoy it you would have to pay $30 a head for the eat-in buffet. The space was also VERY loud, with an incessant phone and random high-pitched beeping.
All in all, the meal we had was delicious and big enough to share, and we're already looking forward to going back, so we'd highly...
