I have been to many bars in my time and worked in hospitality for 7 years- NEVER have I been treated so appallingly bad or seen employees behave so rudely to clients!
We arrived at around 9.15pm and were curious as to whether food was still being served. I politely and hopefully asked if any food was still available, expecting the answer to be no- the response given by staff was extremely rude and condescending!
When I went to get my second beverage, I was ignored at the bar for up to 4 minutes while 1 person washed glasses and another chopped lemons. I completely understand that not everyone behind the bar can serve drinks (the lady chopping lemons was definitely a bartender though) but a simple acknowledgement would have been nice.
Later, after I had consumed 3 beverages, I began to get the hiccups. I was in no way intoxicated and went to the bar to ask for some water- the staff member reluctantly complied and 'strongly suggested' that we leave immediately. I tried to explain that I often get the hiccups, even when not drinking at all which can be quite annoying- instead of showing an ounce of empathy, the bartender turned her back to me and continued chopping limes.
After a 4th beverage, we thought it might be fun to have a round of shots before leaving. When I asked the (male this time) bartender for the shots, he made a very derogatory comment to me and then said we were cut off and had to leave.
Despite only starting to feel tipsy and having done NOTHING wrong, I was now pushed to my breaking point and I made a derogatory comment back to this man. Before I knew it, 3 security guards were surrounding me, one of whom was asking if I "want to fight" (sorry mate, I'm not a thug like you)
Now, like anyone, I have been intoxicated and subsequently kicked out of 1 or 2 venues in my life, which I would always chuckle about the following day and think "fair enough". I am also an extremely self aware person, and am always aware if I'm doing something silly and need to be pulled into line.
This WAS NOT one of those occasions- our group did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong and were made to feel unwanted, and not worthy of being there, from the moment we walked in.
Having worked in hospitality for so long, and having been in hundreds of bars, I can confidently say that this is the worst establishment I've ever visited, and the manager needs to look at hiring some, even remotely friendly staff, before more people have an awful experience...
Read moreI recently visited The Corner Hotel, a venue I had been looking forward to revisiting after some time away. Unfortunately, my experience was not as positive as I had hoped. While the venue still has its charm, it's clear that it's not quite what it used to be.
One of the first things I noticed was the food. While the menu looked promising, the prices seemed high for what was on offer, and the quality didn't quite match up to my expectations. The flavors lacked depth and complexity, and some of the dishes seemed like they were prepared in a rush.
Another disappointment was the beer selection. I had hoped for a variety of craft brews with unique flavors, but instead, the options were mostly big company beers that lacked the complexity and character I was looking for. They tasted fine, but didn't stand out in any way.
The atmosphere of the venue also seemed to have changed. While it used to be a popular spot for cool young people, I now saw more suits and low-level management staff. The overall vibe was less lively and energetic, and it felt like the venue was trying too hard to appeal to a different crowd.
Finally, the management left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed disorganized and overworked, and the service was slow and unresponsive. It felt like they were understaffed and not well-trained, which detracted from the overall experience.
Overall, while The Corner Hotel still has some of its charm, it's clear that it's not the same place it used to be. The food and beer selection are disappointing, the atmosphere has changed, and the management could do a better job of ensuring a more...
Read moreDownstairs Bar AMERICAN BARMAN 5ish Friday 8th So on a Friday arvo went to get a double vodka in downstairs 'grungy bar' Told by the American barman. I cannot do that it's not worth my job. So evidently you cannot serve a double shot and I would have to come back in 15 MINUTES ‘even though in my 40 years of drinking have never ever come across this anywhere I mean anywhere Yes yes I understand in these times of over regulation etc. and I were just a barely looking 18 year old person and it was a hectic Friday night, I walked up, unable to speak and was totally obliterated. It would be acceptable. But no the bar was practically empty and I'm a 60 year old gent it was FRIGGIN 5.pm, Now I tried to start up some jovial banter accepting the one shot of vodka. ‘What if I come back in 7 minutes, 9 mins and so on’ whilst waiting for him to get my drink But this person was downright rude, not only rude but toxic, snatched my card out of my hands, had no interpersonal skills ‘he had all the time in the world but acting like it was before the bar was just about to shut’ and then said I should go upstairs. Basically he has no interpersonal skills and I mean no interpersonal skills and ‘Pound to a penny’ if he kept up that attitude someone would have taken a swing at him that night. I told him he needs to chill out like really chill out.
By the way love the Corner Hotel. And I luv the downstairs bar My prediction ‘he won’t last more...
