I feel that this needs to be brought to light publicly as an advocacy for people with visible/invisible disabilities who struggle with accessibility & understanding by society as a whole. Last night at Sundaylicious held at The Precinct Hotel I couldn't find the disability toilets, which I usually use if I can find them as it's more comfortable & accessible for me with my mobility cane, chronic pain, imbalance, chronic fatigue, overactive bladder & sensory issues. There was no signage. As I needed to use the bathroom straight away I went to use the normal bathroom (which to the venue's credit was non-gendered) & there was a very tight entrance & a line, people squeezing past who were bumping into me & my cane. I then asked the person who came in to check the toilets for cleanliness where the disability toilets were - they told me they were at the front of the venue where we had our tickets scanned. I went there, to be told by the ticket person they were not there & I had to go to the back of the venue where they pointed me to. I went to this location, started walking up steps (which was strange) was stopped by a person who I assumed was a manager who told me I couldn't take my glass past that point. I said that's okay, I'm just looking for the disabled toilets. She told me there was none there & I had to go back to same place as before. I went there again, ticket person was confused and told me to speak to one of the bouncer looking people standing inside the venue who was a "manager". He (who was unfortunately quite standoffish), showed us that the disabled toilets were in fact BEHIND the admin table where the tickets where being scanned. I was then expected to walk through 20cm pass the table, which I said I couldn't fit, so they lifted the table for me to pass. After using it I felt upset & asked to speak to a manager which I did (of the venue), she took me outside & she apologised & said she would fix it. It wasn't. I had to ask for the table to be moved every time. It was distressing & embarrassing. Ater this, while I was dancing on the dance floor the manager of the event tracked me down and told me to follow her (she didn't wait for me), so I went after her, she took me to the front and had the ticket person move the table and said something like "see we can move it any time for you" - I said, but I don't need to use it right now - and they moved it right back. I also lost my friends the first time I used the toilets and through the ordeal because it took so long, I was dealing with speaking with so many people and couldn't message them, and it took me so long to find them again. It affected my enjoyment of a night that I was looking forward to. I only have a mobility cane, if there was someone with a wheelchair this would be much worse. Also blocking off accessibility to disabled toilets is a human rights violation. I'm disgusted and I'll never be going back...
Read moreMy beautiful 26 year old son was asked to leave your hotel on Saturday evening for no reason . You and all your staff should be ashamed of yourselves and I will be taking this matter further. Lachlan was celebrating his 26th birthday on Saturday and after dining with his family and other friends in Albert Park had planned to meet his good mate at your establishment. He had heard there was band playing later in the evening. After entering the hotel and ordering a non alcoholic drink he waited 20mins for his friend Tom to arrive. My son is articulate, intelligent, respectful, studies and works .He was diagnosed with high functioning autism ( Aspergerâs for ALL YOUR STAFF to read about ) when he was younger. Yes âŚhe is different and may have walked around while waiting for his friend but to be thrown out and accused of being drunk is a disgrace. From what he told me .. he handled the situation with dignity and grace whilst your staff were confrontational . Shame on you all . If I could have given zero stars I would have . Please respect all individuals .. not everyone is alike in this world . I cried when told of this incident because I know how amazing my son is and you ruined his night unnecessarily in one swift poor decision. Iâll be taking this matter to the anti discrimination board...
Read moreThis is a true story.
Be me. I'm having a good time. There is some live music. I'm inhaling some bevvies and it's time to break the seal. I head into the bathrooms or what I now will refer to as the ice rink.
I notice immediately it is slippery. I carefully massage my way across the floor to the urinal and I'm careful not to get too confident. The further I venture in the more slippery it has become. I stand at the urinal, which is packed with blokes all trying to get the job done. I amazingly get through this part unscathed.
But as I start to move away, I feel but the slightest slip in my right foot. I go to adjust but it is too late. I begin slip and it all starts moving in slow motion. But this isn't just a story about my downfall. See I mentioned above the urinals were packed. Unfortunately on my trip to the floor I started a chain reaction and one by one, seven guys all fall over at once.
It is a nightmare, no laughing, only screams and shocked faces. Some dodge the troff of urine others now called it home. In the confusion I was able to avoid any blame but the damage was done. I saw a grown man covered in urine, simply start crying. His name was Tim. He was 37 and a breadwinner for a family of 4. Now he was Tim the piss guy.
I'm not sure what the solution is, but lives...
