Let me begin this review by acknowledging that the butter chicken I consumed at Curry Vault was, by all culinary metrics, delectable. The chicken was tender and expertly cooked, enveloped in a sauce that was sweet, flavorful, and evocative of a mildly spiced gastronomic lullaby. The balance of cream, tomato, and aromatic spices was nearly Newtonian in its precision. Kudos to the chef for their commendable efforts in the kitchen.

However, (and do read this in the tone of someone who just discovered a math error on a physics exam), let us now dissect the experience with the clinical scrutiny it so richly deserves.

The portion I received was, shall we say, underwhelming in magnitude. At $26.90, the serving size of butter chicken was not so much a main course as it was a politely sized sample for a lab rat participating in a spice tolerance study. The price, while curiously shy of a psychologically uncomfortable $27, appears to be some sort of perverse pricing strategy aimed at creating an illusion of thrift. I assure you, dear reader, it is no such thing.

Who in their right gastronomic mind devised this $26.90 figure? It’s not a bargain, it’s not a round figure, and it’s not even a cheeky $0.99 marketing trick. It’s a number that feels like it was generated by a malfunctioning random number generator with a PhD in deception. For a portion that can comfortably fit inside a standard Petri dish, the price should have been a reasonable $14 or $15. Perhaps $16 if you factor in Melbourne inflation and rent prices in the CBD. But $26.90? That’s the fiscal equivalent of slapping Stephen Hawking for saying gravity exists.

Moreover, the ambience of the restaurant attempted to channel vault-like intimacy but ended up delivering a slightly claustrophobic experience with echoes of misplaced grandeur. It’s a curry house, not the Chamber of Secrets. The décor, while inoffensive, has the flair of a committee that Googled “Indian restaurant aesthetic” and clicked the first image.

In conclusion, Curry Vault’s butter chicken is indeed delightful, but unless you enjoy playing Russian roulette with your wallet, I’d recommend you approach with caution. I award this establishment three stars , one for taste, one for presentation, and one as a courtesy for not...

What amazing food this place serves! I don't know why I hadn't ordered from this place earlier, despite it being so close to my place. But as they say, better late than never. Thos place offeted me the best of what I had ordered, and the satisfaction I achieved was beyond anything that I could've imagined.

🐏😻

I ordered a Biryani ($16.90) with Lamb (+ $3.90) along with 2 pieces of Vegetable Samosas (Potatoes and green peas tossed with spices, rolled in triangular pastries and deep fried, ($7.80). To be honest, I was expecting the same generic biryani and samosas. My expectations got flipped when I received my food.

The moment I opened the box I knew that this wasn't like anything else. The fragrance of biryani was marvellous. The biryani was exceptionally tasty. The rice was perfect, the lamb pieces were big, perfectly cooked and in good numbers. The raita was just roght enough and elevated the dish. This was a biryani one expects, and something I'd be willing to pay for.

The samosas were hands down some of the best I've had in Melbourne so far, far better than what Dropout Chaiwala or any other place offers. The samosas were big, the biggest I've come across in Melbourne so far, and they were packed with delicious fillings, reminding me of my home. With the tamarind chutney, it was a delight to have those. That's how samosas should be made.

👍🏼👁

I'd like to visit this place in person and check-out their other dishes. If this is their standard, I couldn't be happier😃. Great food, and you really get your money's worth, made the whole culinary experience so much more satisfying. Highly recommended!

TLDR: tasty food, small portions but surprisingly filling, pricey Details: went out for a weekday lunch with my husband. There were plenty of seats but also quite a few non-white patrons, which was reassuring as to the authenticity of the cuisine. The place was very neat, clean, and subtly decorated compared to other Indian restaurants which gave it an overall upmarket feel. Service was really good, especially considering there was only one waitperson. She seated everyone, put orders through to the kitchen, refilled water and managed the payments too, with minimal waiting. We ordered the lamb Rogan Josh, butter chicken, garlic naan and rice. When the dishes were served we felt extremely disappointed by the portion size, especially as each main costs ~$25. However, they were very thick, creamy and tasty so it actually turned out to be more than enough food. We barely managed to finish all the meat and naan. We could not finish the rice and sauce. They lamb was not particularly special. I loved the butter chicken though! I've never had a butter chicken that actually tasted a little buttery and, I think a hint of honey. It was delicious. The naan was also the best garlic naan we've ever had. Despite the tasty food, service and ambience, it's still a bit too expensive for a regular lunch for me. Would recommend as a place for a casual business meeting or for a family celebration... so not for your everyday lunch but not super special occassion either, unless your guest is craving Indian then would definitely recommend this spot.

🚨🚨🚨 A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE: Our recent dining experience at Curry Vault restaurant has left us deeply dissatisfied. The restaurant failed to meet basic expectations in terms of both service and food quality. Firstly, the vegetable curry we ordered was a complete disappointment. Not only were the vegetables frozen, but it also lacked the promised cashews, despite being clearly advertised on the menu. It is unacceptable for a restaurant to mislead customers with false advertisements. When asking the worker, she replied “the veggies are fresh, and the cashews are blended into a powder before mixing it in.” Absolutely false - we feel absolutely cheated and appalled. Moreover, the wait time for the food was unacceptable. We patiently waited for a whole hour, only to be met with disappointment. The excessive wait not only tested our patience but also heightened our expectations for a delicious meal. The lack of attention from the staff further added to the frustration and contributed to an overall unpleasant experience. We also noticed another couple have the exact same experience saying “the food has taken so long, we are going to leave as we have other commitments” - how appalling from staff to not even compensate! It is disheartening when a restaurant fails to deliver on its promises. Customers expect to receive what they ordered, as well as prompt and attentive service. In this case, the restaurant failed on both counts. The only redeeming dish was the chicken rogan josh which was nice.
