Let me begin this review by acknowledging that the butter chicken I consumed at Curry Vault was, by all culinary metrics, delectable. The chicken was tender and expertly cooked, enveloped in a sauce that was sweet, flavorful, and evocative of a mildly spiced gastronomic lullaby. The balance of cream, tomato, and aromatic spices was nearly Newtonian in its precision. Kudos to the chef for their commendable efforts in the kitchen.
However, (and do read this in the tone of someone who just discovered a math error on a physics exam), let us now dissect the experience with the clinical scrutiny it so richly deserves.
The portion I received was, shall we say, underwhelming in magnitude. At $26.90, the serving size of butter chicken was not so much a main course as it was a politely sized sample for a lab rat participating in a spice tolerance study. The price, while curiously shy of a psychologically uncomfortable $27, appears to be some sort of perverse pricing strategy aimed at creating an illusion of thrift. I assure you, dear reader, it is no such thing.
Who in their right gastronomic mind devised this $26.90 figure? It’s not a bargain, it’s not a round figure, and it’s not even a cheeky $0.99 marketing trick. It’s a number that feels like it was generated by a malfunctioning random number generator with a PhD in deception. For a portion that can comfortably fit inside a standard Petri dish, the price should have been a reasonable $14 or $15. Perhaps $16 if you factor in Melbourne inflation and rent prices in the CBD. But $26.90? That’s the fiscal equivalent of slapping Stephen Hawking for saying gravity exists.
Moreover, the ambience of the restaurant attempted to channel vault-like intimacy but ended up delivering a slightly claustrophobic experience with echoes of misplaced grandeur. It’s a curry house, not the Chamber of Secrets. The décor, while inoffensive, has the flair of a committee that Googled “Indian restaurant aesthetic” and clicked the first image.
In conclusion, Curry Vault’s butter chicken is indeed delightful, but unless you enjoy playing Russian roulette with your wallet, I’d recommend you approach with caution. I award this establishment three stars , one for taste, one for presentation, and one as a courtesy for not...

What amazing food this place serves! I don't know why I hadn't ordered from this place earlier, despite it being so close to my place. But as they say, better late than never. Thos place offeted me the best of what I had ordered, and the satisfaction I achieved was beyond anything that I could've imagined.
🐏😻
I ordered a Biryani ($16.90) with Lamb (+ $3.90) along with 2 pieces of Vegetable Samosas (Potatoes and green peas tossed with spices, rolled in triangular pastries and deep fried, ($7.80). To be honest, I was expecting the same generic biryani and samosas. My expectations got flipped when I received my food.
The moment I opened the box I knew that this wasn't like anything else. The fragrance of biryani was marvellous. The biryani was exceptionally tasty. The rice was perfect, the lamb pieces were big, perfectly cooked and in good numbers. The raita was just roght enough and elevated the dish. This was a biryani one expects, and something I'd be willing to pay for.
The samosas were hands down some of the best I've had in Melbourne so far, far better than what Dropout Chaiwala or any other place offers. The samosas were big, the biggest I've come across in Melbourne so far, and they were packed with delicious fillings, reminding me of my home. With the tamarind chutney, it was a delight to have those. That's how samosas should be made.
