I celebrated my 47th birthday yday & it turned into one of the most heartwarming experiences of my life. all thanks to the amazing team at D'ELEPHANT Thai Restaurant in Richmond. My wife had taken the time to carefully research & book this place, wanting to make the evening special & she couldn’t have picked a better spot. My family & I had a wonderful dinner & the food was absolutely incredible hot, delicious, comforting& perfect for Melbourne's cold winter night. The appetizers & mains were bursting with flavour & we left the table feeling full and satisfied. But the true magic happened after we paid the bill. We casually mentioned it was my birthday while asking a staff member to take a family photo. What happened next truly touched my heart. The chef himself came out, asked us to sit for just five more mins an surprised us with a beautifully crafted signature dessert. a slice of his own cake creation topped with Oreo biscuit, Ferrero Rocher chocolate, a little candle annn ice cream!!. It wasn't just a dessert.it was a gesture filled with warmth and kindness. The entire staff came over to wish me. The chef told me he loves celebrating his customers special occasions and treats them like family. Before we left, he gifted me a hand-carved Thai wooden elephant and two playful miniature pigs with “You’re naughty” written on the back. I later learned that in Thai tradition, elephants symbolize strength and good luck, while pigs represent joy and abundance—making the gifts even more meaningful. As someone of Indian background, I am used to birthdays being special in childhood, but to be pampered like this at 47, by people who didn’t even know me. it moved me deeply. My wife and kids were amazed, and I left not just with a full stomach, but a full heart.
Thank you to the humble chef and the wonderful team at D'ELEPHANT. You turned an ordinary birthday dinner into an extraordinary memory I’ll...
Read moreBeen here multiple times and always a delightful experience. The food here never fails to meet expectations with friendly service and attentive staff.
For starters today eventhough we always love the pork skewers/moo ping which are fantastic. Today we decided to give the wicked rib a try, fried to perfection and juicy with a slight tangy taste to it have it while it’s hot and goes well with the sweet chilli mayo.
The soft shell crab curry is always a meal highlight. It comes with a slightly sweet rich coconut milk curry and goes really well with the soft shell crab.
The beef salad although not so authentic came with very juicy and tender grilled beef with a sweet and tangy light dressing.
Cashew nut chicken also a family favourite and also a must have for us is the tom yum fried rice which comes with ample toppings.
The fried whole fish already fillet usually come with the sweet and sour sauce but we usually get them to do it for us with the lemongrass and garlic toppings with the slightly spicy tangy green dipping sauce
As for desserts we today we had the coconut ice cream and Thai milk tea soft serves made into a parfait with sticky rice at the bottom usually not a big fan of sticky rice as many places tend to have it slightly hard but the sticky rice here is always soft with a chewy texture. Probably one of the best coconut ice cream I have ever had in my opinion.
Great place to come with family or friends and order to share to get a taste of everything.
They also have a large variety of mocktails and their Thai milk tea is really authentic and you can order it with the Thai milk tea soft serve. Be careful though. You might want to share it as it can be a little too much for...
Read moreD’Elephant Thai in Richmond is one of the best spots for casual, flavour-packed Thai food — consistently fresh, generous, and full of authentic taste. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for a quick weeknight dinner as it does for a relaxed meal out with friends.
The menu covers all the Thai favourites, and every dish feels balanced and satisfying. The curries are a standout — rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced without being overpowering. The stir-fries are vibrant and full of flavour, with fresh vegetables and tender meat or tofu options, while the noodle dishes (like pad Thai and pad see ew) are always spot on. Everything comes out quickly, hot, and beautifully presented.
Portions are generous, and prices are very reasonable, making it great value. It’s the kind of food that’s hearty and comforting but also bright and full of life — exactly what you want from a good Thai restaurant.
The space itself has a warm, casual atmosphere with a modern touch. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and just as good for dining in as it is for takeaway. Even when it’s busy, it never feels chaotic, and the staff keep everything flowing smoothly.
Speaking of staff, they’re consistently friendly, attentive, and efficient. Orders are taken with a smile, food comes out quickly, and you always feel well looked after.
What I love most about D’Elephant Thai is the consistency. Every visit delivers the same high standard — tasty food, generous portions, quick service, and a relaxed vibe. It’s reliable in the best possible way.
