Pretty simple, really: Del Post 2409 offers the best food on the Mornington Peninsula. This is my second review of Del Posto. My first review was written only a few days after they opened. It was odd to my eyes that they chose to open during the hectic Christmas period--I would have thought it more appropriate to open at a quieter time to provide a less demanding early experience--and in my review of that time, I praised the food and wine, but heavily criticised the service. Those working on the floor were excellent--and still are--but the kitchen just couldn't get the food out quickly enough, and the wait time was interminable.
To their credit, those in charge have addressed this by simplifying the menu and making some other changes, and while Del Posto could never be thought of as fast food, the wait times are now fine. Well done to them.
Del Posto offers Italian food at its finest. The serves are not enormous, and it's not cheap, but I feel that it offers excellent value for money given the quality of food, wine, and service on offer.
You are offered excellent warm sourdough bread and olive oil soon after arrival, before considering a menu made up of about a half dozen entrees, a few pasta and risotto dishes, and one or two larger plates. There's always a fish dish on offer, a bird of some type, and perhaps some veal. A couple of sides rounds out the menu. And that's it. It's a short menu, but carefully managed and well-balanced.
The wine list is a ripper and offers a range of Australian and Italian reds and whites. We always put ourselves in the hands of the wait staff, who have an excellent knowledge of the wine and always offer us something that matches the food to perfection.
We've never eaten anything here that wasn't delicious, whether it be thinly sliced porchetta with red cabbage, stuffed zucchini flowers, baked gnocchi, or grilled spatchcock. Everything is prepared with care and an eye for presentation, flavour, and respect for the fresh ingredients.
Service is provided by experienced and skilled waitstaff, who are happy to give advice and have a chat. These people really know how to run a restaurant.
Even in the quiet times, Del Posto has two full sittings on each of Friday and Saturday nights. They are doing very well, and so they should. This is some of the best Italian food you can find...
Read moreI went out for lunch today with my close friend at Del Posto 2409 in Rye. We were booked in for Friday, yesterday but they're renovating during the week days so owner rung me during the week to change our day. We arrived and were greeted by the owner, he was really nice and gave us a table at the front window which we loved. Once we sat down, he asked us if we'd like a drink or a bottle of tap water and gave us the menu's, he also bought over some ciabatta bread and olive oil. All the meals we ordered, entrees, mains, dessert were all of large generous size, full of flavour, and delicious. The owner asked us if we'd like pepper on our meals which I thought was a nice added touch of great customer service. You could tell the food was made with passion and the presentation was beautiful. I was so pleased with everything that this restaurant did. Great class, a touch of fine dining, but also a lovely causal atmosphere inside. The owner chatted with us, during our dining experience and even brought over another bottle of water for us without us asking for it.

Read moreAbsolutely in shock and disappointed, can most definitely say i will not be returning. Not only was the food disappointing, the service has been the lowest quality of hospitality I have ever experienced. I ordered the Lasagna, not only was it not as it was described, once I mentioned how it was missing ingredients, the man who seemed as the manager, not only disregarded me but was impeccably rude and just replied with ‘ yeh it’s not usually like that’, not even offering to replace it until i requested it. They were annoyed every time we asked for more water or asked for more bread, they went on to navigate as though we were asking for too much ( only had 4 slices for a family of 5) which made us feel ashamed and as though we weren’t as worthy as the other paying customers. We were left with no sharing plates leaving us to eat our entrees off napkins. They began to ignore us and couldn’t even provide us with any courtesy which i’ve never experienced when dining at restaurant. In saying this, being a ‘ fine dining ‘ restaurant, and one that is heavily priced, i expected more, not only did they not compensate for there mistakes but they made our experience terrible. This place and the manager needs a reality check and to learn how to run an...
