Sometimes art that is ephemeral is more important than things we can experience more than once. Food takes this spot but can also be placed in front of you more than once. Making the experience at Dirty Apron one of my favorites as I travel through Melbourne.
This is just such a lovely space with a team of people that genuinely care about the environment they are creating. Homely, comfortable, familiar but still exciting. I literally had to shove my face through the service window to tell the chef how impressed I was that everything she made glowed with a sense of pride and elegance.
Serious hats off to this place and it's staff. They set a bar and exceed it on a daily basis.
My only criticism comes from a lack of information on my part. That being that the art on the walls seemed slightly dated.. but it's such a small and largely irrelevant concern. My hope is that they exhibit locals and change the work seasonally to create newness for both the locals and staff.
That asside an absolute tour deforce of what Melbourne already does well at an affordable price. I...
Read moreWe drive past almost daily in the way to school drop off and always dream of stopping in for a hot chocolate and finally managed it today. You did not disappoint. My magic coffee was perfect. And the toastie for my daughter was delicious! Thank you 🙏 PS we parked in the 15m spot in front of the milkbar and were one minute over and Costa was unbelievably rude. Note to others, park there, it’s ok. You have every right to do so and don’t be intimidated by the angry man. He stared us down when we parked there, scaring the children, then at exactly 15min he left a note, despite us being within 2m of the car, about to leave. He was ridiculous as he thinks he owns street parking. Anyway. It did run our experience in the end but we will definitely be back and won’t let him intimidate us. How ridiculous he is. My children are terrified of him though so this IS affecting your customers with his antics. He needs...
Read moreOrdered the Mint Avo and shouldn't have! Two small slices of tooth-breakingly hard sour dough toast topped with a few spoonsful of mashed avocado. Where were the menu-touted broadbeans and goats cheese? Super-small crumbs of goats cheese were sprinkled in a pretentious circle around the toast accompanied by 8 broadbeans (Yes, I begrudgingly counted them.) Unimpressive for $18. A printed menu was promptly provided upon arrival, but I then waited a long time to order despite the cafe being largely empty . Will not be returning as there are better alternatives for breakfast and lunch in Queens Parade (Two:Bob) and nearby Noone Street...
