Dumpling Guys Werribee — Restaurant in Melbourne

Absolutely freaking delicious! I was hunting all night for a place with Peking duck as I’ve had some major cravings lately, and I thought settling for Peking duck pancakes would be a disappointing but semi decent substitute. LITTLE DID I KNOW 🔥

Apparently my last and first experience of Peking duck pancakes (at a different restaurant) was not what they were meant to be like, because THESE ONES were full of flavour, were juicy, and the pancake was delightfully thin and tasty.

I also bought chicken and prawn dumplings! I couldn’t decide between pan fried or steamed so I bought 6 of each… which was the best decision ever! The shape was not the typical shape I am used to for dumplings, so initially I was hesitant… BUT the pan fried ones were so fresh, and juice practically poured I to my mouth once I bit into its semi crispy exterior. #heavenly! And the taste was so good 😭 I feel like I’ve run out of ways to express just how good they were. The contrast in texture is my dream for pan fried dumplings, and these did not disappoint at all! And the steamed ones were equally excellent - they don’t have that stale overcooked edges texture many places around the area have had either.

And the blanched broccolini 🥹 I was expecting a soggy and overcooked mess in a container as it’s been waiting for me to start eating it while I have urgently been writing this review. One word: Crispy. 2 words?: Crispy Tasty.

Have I mentioned I didn’t even have any of this with the soy sauce condiment provided? I truly wasn’t expecting such a wonderful surprise of quality in Werribee of all places. Not to diss my hometown, but this particular place was so good I’d have expected to have found it in the more authentic parts of China town in the CBD.

Was it a busy place? Yes, busier than most on this street given it was a Monday night. Could the atmosphere be improved (deco-wise)? Possibly. This place definitely did not grab my attention at first glance.

However, for the insanely cheaper side of price for the insanely delicious menu offerings 😭 PLEASE NEVER LEAVE...

I have been to this place couple of times, however, I had the worst experience when I visited on 22 May 2023 evening. I was looking for table for 2 and a highchair for my toddler. There were 2 tables of 4 sitting capacity occupied by 1 person but the management didn’t bother to create a space for 2 with little adjustment. Also, there was a table for 4 lying empty without any reserve marked but when we proceeded to sit their, they mentioned its reserved and asked us to vacate. There was a space in the passage which was freezing cold as they kept a door open. We waited for sometime as my toddler was refusing to leave. When I asked them on waiting time for next availability to sit they couldn’t even answer.

Very very poor management Food was OK, I go to this place as its the nearest from my home.

From my recent experience, I will never visit this...

Generous portions, low prices, very friendly staff.

They are very friendly.

Atmosphere or space is just normal, average.

One minor complaint is that the menus always feel sticky...everything else is clean, though.

Food is nice and doesn't touch my "fake Asian"/"fake Chinese food" nerve--EXCEPT the special fried rice--still enjoyed it but might not order again--everything else I thoroughly enjoyed on all my visits: dumplings, noodles, rice dishes, xiaolongbao, various side dishes.

I think I said in a previous review that I used to go there for "healing" on a cold, tired, late study night, with the xiaolongbao and spicy and sour soup. Hmmm😌it settles my Asian stomach,...
