Located in the heart of Werribee, The Social Sutra is a bustling cafe popular with the locals. Visiting for breakfast on a sunny morning we opted to sit outside.
We ordered the smashed avo stack with an added side of halloumi along with the crab omelette from the specials menu. For drinks we went with the mixed berry smoothie and peanut butter mocha.
Each dish arrived generously portioned. The smashed avo stack served with heirloom tomato, beetroot relish and asparagus was a nice twist on a typical smashed avo. My friend loved the beetroot relish, it worked beautifully with the rest of the plate. The added halloumi nicely complemented the avocado.
The crab omelette with sautéed crab meat, chilli sauce and blistered tomatoes was nicely balanced. Although not as photogenic as the smashed avo stack it was still tasty. The omelette had a nice hint of crab flavour that wasn’t overpowering, whilst the chilli sauce added a touch of spice.
Both drinks were lovely. If you’re into peanut butter then consider ordering either the peanut mocha or peanut butter hot chocolate. My friend loved the peanut butter flavour. The mixed berry smoothie was creamy and refreshing.
Overall I had a lovely experience at the Social Sutra. I recommend you check them out if in the area, I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. Thanks very much...
Read moreThe food although not spectacular, is quite good. However, almost every time we go here (and we have being going every weekend for the last 6 months or so, give or take a weekend here and there) there always seems to be an issue with getting the order right if you dont order the exact menu item e.g. eggs benedict with options of ham, bacon or salmon. if you ask for bacon but on the side as opposed to under the eggs, they seem to struggle with this simple request. the latest issue i had is when ordering tomato with my breakfast for which they charge $5 and serve you HALF a tomato (i.e. $10 per tomato). i’m happy to pay for sides but that is ridiculous. then to be told thats how much tomatoes cost is simply an insult to my intelligence. I’m not sure where they source their tomatoes but I suggest trying Woolworths where even I get can buy 1kg gourmet tomatoes for under $5. Not only did we walk out without eating breakfast but this cafe has now lost 2 regulars. tired of worrying whether or not we’ll get what we ordered and then beibg...
Read moreA lovely cafe, staff show they are a team, friendly atmosphere, however Coeliacs needing a strict gluten free meal need to be cautious. I ordered the chia pudding -listed on menu as gluten free and told our server about being Coeliac -I had to explain what that meant, but they were very young and they did listen and write it down carefully to communicate to the kitchen. Unfortunately the pudding came out with a carmelised oat topping.... Oats have a gluten protein. To their credit I bought it up and it was exchanged for a fresh one, but the menu holds some other clues that gluten contamination risk may be higher than acceptable for some eg. Chips are not gluten free, but the gluten free salad has fried kale -a small cafe is not likely to keep separate gluten and gluten free fryers so it is hard to navigate fried items being listed as gluten free when gluten containing items are also fried. Along with the oat mistake, unfortunately a food allergen safety refresher...
