I work for a travel agency in Sydney and handle clients from India and Sri Lanka so I was sent to Melbourne on a mission to review some of the known Indian and Sri Lankan restaurants in Melbourne to add as recommendations to our rapidly growing client base. I reviewed multiple restaurants over 2 weeks and unfortunately experienced the worst service I have ever come across in my life last Saturday in this restaurant (really wanted to like it too because they've got both Sri Lankan and Indian food). Came in with a couple of my friends and since we had visited another Sri Lankan restaurant in Glen Waverly a couple of hours prior, I wanted to be fair and order the lamprais as I did in the previous restaurant for comparison. So yes, we placed a small order- a table of three ordered a Lamprais, another rice and 3 desserts. But the curly haired waitress who took our order was extremely rude while taking the order and asked multiple times if that was all we were going to order and when we said yes she sighed and rolled her eyes and stared us down with the most disgusted face and...rolled her eyes again. Obviously this put all of us off and I was about to tell her we would order more when she went to the other waitress and complained about our order and as I was about to approach her, I saw them both point at our table and roll their eyes and laugh. I then sat back down and was still watching them and then they saw me look at them and panicked and immediately scattered. We then got our order for takeaway and cancelled the desserts and of course received the worst attitude after that too but was just glad to leave. I do understand that a busy restaurant can find small orders inconvenient but I do hope that the staff would be better trained to serve paying customers with better care. I have worked in hospitality and have catered to ridiculous requests but always handled it with respect regardless. My friends and I would personally never visit this restaurant again but my manager urged me to write this review. Food was average but awful...
Read moreElephant Corridor has to be an incredible Sri Lankan Restaurant. Being a food enthusiast, I really do not mind travelling a distance for good food. This restaurant was first recommended to me by my family 3 months ago but I live in Brisbane. I finally managed to get a break to be in Melbourne and I definitely had to try this place out, and I am glad that we did!
Despite the 1 hr 40 minutes drive from Melton, we reserved a table and made our way toElephant Corridor. Reservation was very easy and the staff were very helpful (even over the phone!).
At the restaurant, the staff were very polite and extremely professional (kudos to the staff training-excellent customer service!). Food order was quick (via QR scan) and I must say the menu items was a great deal to choose from. The food preparation was very quick and efficient and the wait time was less than 10 minutes.
The food: We are Fijians of Indian decent and we love our spice! The food was very generous with it's spices and we enjoyed everything (PS: If you do not like too much spice/heat there are mild and medium options but we specifically chose 'hot' as an option for almost all our selected items off the menu). The food was very authentic, aromatic and had a lot of taste! The items are also considerate about Gluten Free options, this also was a contributing factor to choose this restaurant as my mom has celiac and can not take food with gluten.
Personal recommendations (best for this Melbourne winter): Lamb Vindaloo Sri Lankan Devilled Chicken Green Jack Fruit Curry (vegetarian)
5/5 to everything that we ordered but these three dishes were the best!
The overall ambience of the restaurant is incredible too and the friendly staff make things even better. It has a great vibe and it feels great to sit and enjoy good food with your loved ones.
Having travelled more than 18 countries, Elephant Corridor is definitely one of my favourites now. I would absolutely...
Read moreAs a table of Indians and Sri Lankans, I can speak with some authority and have to say that we were not at all impressed with this restaurant.
Firstly, the serving sizes were all strangely different. Chicken is markedly cheaper than Beef yet the butter chicken is served in a tiny pot while the Sri Lankan Beef Curry is a considerably larger serving. The Rogan Josh was even smaller (I thought it was an entree when it first came out). The Naan is twice the average price and the rice is steamed and colored so nothing special in terms of food quality.
The Dining experience is terrible. They use mirrors very cleverly because when you first walk in you think you are dining in a large restaurant. However, you soon realize that it is only half the size and the continuous bumps from staff and patrons soon becomes unbearable.
Price is so ridiculous especially when you consider some of the serving sizes. The food is of average standard but really there are more yummy options in surrounding suburbs like Clayton with generous serves at half the price.
Oh, and parking around The Glen is a real stress since the cashed up Chinese moved in en masse. To combat this, The Monash Council have provided a phone app for their parking officers to help them pounce on your car and supply you with a hefty ticket so beware as the fine is nearly $90 from memory.
So, in terms of stress, hustle and bustle lol, dining at The Elephant Corridor in the Glen of an evening does provide a genuine 3/5 big South Asian city experience.
If you're not really into traffic jams, parking hassles, crowded walkways and after dinner parking fines then I recommend getting your Indian/Sri lankan...
