I visited Fat Boy Street Eatery on Chapel Street in April 2025 for a late dinner around 9pm with my partner and her cousin. After wandering the streets looking for somewhere to eat, we were drawn in by good word of mouth reviews and the fun decor, including a tuk tuk set up in the front window. After having a look at the menu, we were sold.

A lovely waitress welcomed us, gave us menus and water, and let us know they would be closing soon. With about 45 minutes left, we ordered quickly. For drinks, we grabbed an Aperol Spritz and a mocktail mojito. Both were nice, although the mojito could have used a bit more flavour. For food, we ordered a grilled chicken salad, papaya salad with chicken ribs, and banana sticky rice. I enjoyed the grilled chicken salad, which was mildly spicy, packed with veggies, and had a great sauce. The papaya salad with chicken ribs also got good feedback from across the table, and the banana sticky rice, cooked and served in a banana leaf, was a hit with my partner. She even smuggled the leftover banana leaf out for a snack later. Overall, the food was good with plenty of variety on the menu.

The vibe of the venue was really charming. Although it was quiet for a Saturday evening, the cosy setting and cute Thai decor created a welcoming atmosphere. There was an upstairs area too, though it did not seem to be in use that night. The lighting was quite dim and there was little, if any, background music, which made the vibe a little subdued but still enjoyable. After finishing our meal, the staff helped us split the bill quickly and sent us off with warm, friendly service.

Overall, I really enjoyed our visit. I would love to come back and try more of the menu, and my partner felt the same. There’s not a lot of parking nearby however it’s very close to Windsor station which is super convenient to walk to. If you are in the area and looking for a relaxed spot for street style Thai food in Melbourne, Fat Boy Street Eatery is definitely worth...

To start off, the food was quite good but the service was atrocious. We actually came to try this place because so many reviews said the service was good, so were extremely surprised. My partner made a booking in person the previous day and they wrote down the booking in front of him, including his details and phone number.

When we arrived, the female staff member told us there was no booking and glared at us as if we were trying it on. That was very awkward! This was our 4-year anniversary and we had been looking forward to a nice dinner. She didn't say anything and left us there while she checked her tablet. No apology or acknowledgement, just left us standing there. My boyfriend mentioned that he had asked if it was ok to book an outdoor table and he had been informed the previous day that it was fine.

After a few minutes of waiting she took us to an outside table without a word. It was extremely unpleasant and tense and we felt unwelcome. After that it did not get any better. We ordered 3 dishes to share between the 2 of us and each came out at a different time. There were other issues but you get the idea. We were polite and friendly, and had chosen to eat & spend our money here, is it really hard to return the compliment?

Maybe it was an off day but with so many amazing places to eat on Chapel St, we will be going...

We went there in a lazy Saturday late afternoon and there was no one there. This turned out to be good for us as we got full attention. The gigantic Menu cards were brought out and looked like we needed another table just to open the menu card. Soon we discovered the reason behind the size of the menu-card as they had proper snapshots of each and every dish on the menu card which instantly made us hungry. We started with some ice tea and make no mistake, they make them fresh there- NOT the bottled one. I would recommend iced Thai milk tea which was just too good. The meals followed soon with great taste and finesse. Te quantities were just right- Not too much or not too less either. The quality of meat and seafood were fresh and with full of flavour. We had a Green Papaya salad with grilled chicken (a must try), Son-in-law eggs, drunken noodles with seafood (another masterpiece) and tom yum fried rice with chicken. The staff were very friendly and service was very prompt. I would highly recommend this place and love to go back...

Loved the restaurant name and were thoroughly impressed with the quality and generosity of the food particularly at such reasonable prices. Talk about the best value on chapel st We started the meal with three entrees; fish cakes, chicken satay skewers and prawn spring rolls. Each of these were accompanied by truly delicious and extremely well balanced sauces. My favourite by a very narrow margin was the skewers for their juicy chicken and sensational satay sauce. The pickled vegetables served on the side were also a hit. Main wise we had the lamb massaman and the prawn pad see ew accompanied by some steamed rice and roti with peanut sauce. The lamb was exceptionally tender and packed full of flavour. The noodle dish was also very tasty freshened up by a squeeze of lime. We would certainly visit again
