Summary: Clearly one of the best breakfast and brunch places in Melbourne. Super classy. Lovely space with terrific inside and outside areas. Good menu here with excellent healthy and not so healthy dishes available depending on your inclination. Superior coffee served here as well. Great place. Highly recommended.

The class starts here at the front door. Wait til you see it. It’s amazing. It leads to a stunning space inside. The space has high ceilings and stark white walls. There’s beautiful greenery throughout the cafe with a number of oversized hanging baskets with cascading philodendrons. It’s a lovely look and it doesn’t stop there. There’s a wonderful courtyard out the back as well. It was a stunning spot on a sunny day like today. There’s several nice areas out there. The one I’d go for would be on the side bench with a view through to the adjacent park. It looked amazing.
I started today with a silky long black. They serve mighty coffee here. Superior beans are used and the brew is expertly made. We started our meal with cauliflower fries which were simply amazing. They were piping hot with a lovely peppery flavour that we both really enjoyed. I love cauliflower but would never have believed it could taste this good. The fries were incredible.
We shared two main dishes. Both were excellent and both were large. The first was a pumpkin salad with kale. It’s a great dish for sharing. The pumpkin is creamy and superbly cooked. The dish includes finely chopped kale, chopped almonds, avocado and sesame seeds among other things. We loved it. It’s very tasty with great textures. Similarly, the southern fried chicken bao is a cracking dish. The chicken is gorgeous. It’s so tender and clearly good quality meat. Add lovely pickled cabbage, sriracha aoli and chilli and lime cashews wrapped in a thrillingly soft bao and you’ve got a real winning dish. It was fantastic.
My partner finished with a flat white which had some very cute coffee art. Like me, she declared the coffee to be superb.
We were so impressed with Fourth Chapter. As I said in the summary above, this is clearly up there with the very best breakfast and brunch places in Melbourne.
Our sincere thanks to Costa for the kind invitation to dine here today. Our thanks too to his...
Read moreThere exists a culinary wasteland in Melbourne in the suburbs between Prahran and Carnegie. A flavour desert, a Bermuda triangle of blandness.
Looking for somewhere new for brunch, we were enticed (some may say severely misled) into this insipid zone by Fourth Chapter's Prahran address.
Fourth Chapter's menu, like many of its other fellow travellers in the blando-sphere promises good flavour. All the ingredients are there, fruit, chilli, sweet potato, saganaki... Yet when it arrives it seems as if the chef has only ever read about these ingredients in a book, probably in black and white.
The complete mediocrity across both plates would be impressive if not for its numbing and soporific effect on our Saturday morning.
A big breakkie with bacon that somehow lacked flavour, mushrooms that tasted of nothing, and the most exciting prospect on the menu (a sweet potato waffle) somehow still managing to be most reminiscent of play-dough eaten in preschool.
To the creator of the chilli scramble, I'm sorry, but lemon is not a flavour, and when I think fresh, chilli flavours, the sad jalapenos from a jar that served as the only spice on the plate do not come to mind.
If ever a restaurant deserves three stars, this is it. A restaurant so bland that it couldn't even taste bad, a restaurant which will serve as the platonic ideal of three stars in my mind for ever. If there's dictionary that covers restaurant ratings, then the section on "three stars" should have a picture of this place.
For locals who love this place, please, for the love of god, go west to real Prahran, or else get into your land Rovers and make a expedition to the far east of Carnegie. In each an oasis of flavour awaits. Your bland existence need not define your...
Read moreFourth Chapter Cafe is a popular cafe in Prahran, Melbourne, that serves up delicious breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes. The cafe has a modern and stylish interior, with plenty of natural light. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is always fresh and beautifully presented.
I recently visited Fourth Chapter Cafe for breakfast and had the avocado smash with poached eggs and sourdough toast. The avocado was perfectly ripe and creamy, and the poached eggs were cooked just right. The sourdough toast was also delicious, and the whole dish was very satisfying.
I also tried the cauliflower fritters with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. The cauliflower fritters were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy. This was another delicious dish that I would definitely recommend. Chilli Scrambled eggs were also first class - with good heat.
Overall, I had a great experience at Fourth Chapter Cafe. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a great breakfast, brunch, or lunch in Prahran.
Here are some of the things that I liked about Fourth Chapter Cafe:

The cafe can get quite busy, so it can be difficult to get a table during peak times. Overall, I would give Fourth Chapter Cafe a 5 out of 5 stars. It is a great place to go for a delicious and...
