ORDERED: 🐟 Lightly battered fish and chips: with chunky tartare sauce & salad ($27.00)
I paid $27.32 which included a card surcharge.
REVIEW: ❌ The fish and chips didn't do it for me. The fish tasted pungent/fishy which was on the side of unpleasant. We came for lunch, and appeared to be their first customers of the day. Unsure if this affected the quality of the fish. 🥴 Secondly, the light batter was very moist. It looked promisingly crunchy but was very soggy. Nothing hits me harder than the wrecking ball of disappointment. The accompanying salad was unwieldy. It featured some sprigs of herbs still on the stem and some thickly cut vegetables. The flavours were alright, but instead of leaving the stems I'd rather the Flying Duck Hotel leave me with a completely edible salad. 😫
One cannot help but wonder if $27 for fish and chips at this quality is too much.
✔️ Regardless, the atmosphere and the service was fantastic. They renovated this place, and it feels very classy and lovely. There's a strong sense of earthiness from the green tones from the booths and the invitingly warm brown tones from the exposed brick and dark brown timber. Overall, it's a gorgeous establishment. 💓 ✔️ Staff are incredibly friendly as well. They were generously willing to pile us up with complimentary aioli and tomato sauce.
I can imagine myself having a fun, relaxed time at Flying Duck but with another...
Read moreI came here for my friends 30th that we had booked out and paid for. Venue is great, however the "manager" is extremely sexist. The bar doesn't stock energy drinks so he said "well there's a 7 eleven down the road if you really want one" so I said OK "so if I go and get one I can come back in" and he said "I won't let you back in". At this point this man had been serving multiple drunk males stumbling all over the place however a female that had a total of 3 drinks over 4 hours wasn't acceptable. Throughout the night I watched this man serve multiple men serve multiple drinks but was extremely disrespectful to someone that simply asked for an energy drink, something that most bars stock. Mysogony and nastiness isn't tolerated in any other environment, why on earth is it tolerate here? I'm sorry to say that as someone that has done many years of bar work, it's still a customer service role so stop pretending you can treat people like rubbish. I would not return. All he needed to say was "I'm really sorry we don't have them", instead he accused a single female of harassing a male bar tender. In this age of violence and prejudice against women I'm disgusted that this man is still in a position...
Read moreImpossible to find a place to park. It's down a very, very narrow street. Went here for a birthday celebration. We had small function room inside. There were 30 people. Waiter, Hunter, was a very nice young man. Extremely understanding when 2 of our group complained about the eggplant lasagna being too salty and overcooked. Other dishes were provided and a complimentary glass of wine for each person. My battered fish and chips were good. We had tried to book the atrium area but at $2000 minimum, we decided against it. That area was vacant for the 3 hours we were there. At that price I can see why. On a Saturday afternoon in January the air conditioner was appreciated in our small function room. Flying Duck also charges 'cakeage' fee of $20. We had a small cake, which we cut and served. Plates and forks (not spoons) were provided. Perhaps the cost was for washing the dishes. As they don't sell cake, I can't see why serving it costs that much. People did also order dessert. Pleasant outdoor area but as it was a hot day, the function room was a better...
