REVIEW: My foodie friend did a positive review of Osteria Renata on Instagram - so I had to go!
Our favourites were the: Fried brussel sprouts. With roasted crispy jackets, this was such a good savoury start. If you like yummy greens then you have to get this! 💚 Quadrati. Stuffed pasta, this was delicious. The minced mushroom worked in harmony with the mascarpone, a classic combination that's savoury but also cheesy. With freshly shaved truffle on top, the aroma was mouth watering. 🍄 Limoncello syrup cake. This was a perfect way to finish. A light moist sponge cake with tangy syrup that leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth. I love ending a carb heavy dinner on a note like this. ☁
➖ The weakest dish for me was the Sauteed greens. Although there was an attempt with the capers to add some interest, the sour heaviness and thickness from the goats curd didn't sit comfortably with the greens or as an accompaniment to the steak. The brussel sprouts would've been a much better alternative! 🤩
🌷 Overall, Osteria Renata is worth visiting. Their silky pasta quality is one of the best I've had in Melbourne. The setting is intimate with a golden glow from the lights and a beautiful place to catch up...

Even on a Monday night (typically, not a busy night for many restaurants), the place was bustling. We were welcomed by friendly staff who seemed genuinely to enjoy their work. Their professional team approach resulted in a seamless and highly enjoyable dining experience.
The crisp, salted skin of the market fish added a little crunch to the tender, just-cooked meat below. Though it comes with vegetables (cavolo nero and small, nicely-browned potatoes) I also ordered a side salad to share with my party. The deliciously-fresh salad’s mixture of bitter, mild and peppery leaves, orange segments, tossed in a light dressing, was a perfect accompaniment to our meal.
My friend chose the day’s pasta special: a buttery spaghetti, cooked al dente and flavoured with chicory and anchovies. I couldn't resist having a taste. Fortunately (for me) she has a small appetite and the waitress provided a take-away box. Not a single noodle will be wasted.
Her teenage son, who is unused to dining out and has yet to develop an adventurous palate, chose the bolognese. Like his mother, his appetite is usually small. Nevertheless, he ate every bite of his generous helping of pasta & ragout and several of the skin-on, hand-cut fries.
Almost everyone has an additional ‘dessert-stomach.’ My friend discovered hers, and we shared the semifreddo: an irresistible combination of soft salted caramel, just-sweet-enough frozen chocolate cream and crunchy praline.
Full marks to whoever chose the ambient music!

Read moreRecently I had been driving past this restaurant so often, noticing its beautiful olive green facade, hoping that one day I can try it. Last night I finally got the opportunity to visit. I was so delighted to have such a lovely dining experience. I went with a friend and we decided to share a few things. The menu was full of options so it was so hard to chose what we wanted, knowing that we’d be missing out on some delicious dishes. We started with the Oysters and the Kingfish. Oysters were great but the Kingfish was phenomenal. Definitely the best Kingfish I’ve had recently. I was also shocked to have enjoyed it because it had little bits of anchovies on it which I usually HATE, but you couldn’t even taste them, they just added to the delicious flavour! For the mains, we decided to share the Radiatori alla Vodka and the Paccheri Wagu Beef. Both pastas were so full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I read somewhere that they hand make their on pasta which I believe always makes the dish extra special. The pasta was also very well portioned. Just to add, our waitress was so lovely and sweet and very attentive, she was also very knowledgeable of the menu and the dishes ingredients. I’d suggest if you’re planning to come here soon, come with a large group so you have the opportunity to try multiple dishes...
