I searched high and low for a quality restaurant opened for lunch for my elderly parents and we landed at Franks Seafood! What a find! I had been here 20 years ago and although little had changed the food, old style italian tunes and hospitality did not disappoint. The entree seafood platter for two was a simple yet delicious fare: Moreton bay bugs, scallops, crab claw, prawns, and the calamari ….wow! …so tender, they were my Italian parent’s (old school foodies) winning dish. My 87yo dad didn't come up for air when served his Linguini marinara (in bianco) That’s saying something for an Italian gigolo always looking to chat up the nearest waitress. Today Caterina the owner of Franks made us feel so welcome and went out of her way to ensure my parents requests were catered for. Thank you. We will be booking our next family reunion at Franks Seafood restaurant. The decor feels Italian and authentic and like a home away from home. That’s how it made my octogenarians feel. Priceless experience for us all. Thank you chef and Caterina with a C!

No longer run by Frank, the restaurant is now in the hands of former VFA player “Jack” Aziz, who brings a warm and welcoming vibe to the venue. Jack’s friendliness really adds a personal touch to the experience. We tried two pizzas — the Mexicana and a vegetarian with ham. While they’re not wood-fired, they’re traditional stone-baked in an oven. The bases were crisp and the marinated capsicum gave a nice burst of flavour. They’re decent pizzas — simple and satisfying. The décor is a bit dated — think black and white tones, with light fittings that feel like they belong in your great-aunt’s lounge room. It’s clean and comfortable, but could use a little refresh. There’s also an upstairs area available for private functions, though it’s not ideal for anyone with mobility issues as there’s no lift access, but plenty of seating downstairs. Felt a bit sorry for them — it was very quiet for a Friday night, which surprised us given the friendly service and decent food. Hopefully more locals rediscover it, because it deserves a bit more love.

Attended a function the and the food was terrible, I kept thinking this place would be a good project for the kitchen nightmares TV show. I am assuming the photos posted by the restaurant are from the good old days when they probably were doing well. Looking around at the function I attended I would say that 99% of the meals that went out were hardly touched, meats were tough, fish may have been cooked from frozen & had a terrible taste and was partly raw. Veggies were frozen, pasta sauce not fresh & it seemed the same sauce was used on everything. I felt sorry that a fish died to make my meal and it just ended up in the bin. The food waste that day had to be seen. I know times are tough coming out of lengthy lockdowns but my advice would be to simplify your menu and offer fresh & well cooked food and look for a new chef!

It is with regret that I find myself writing a negative review, as I have always been a strong supporter of providing constructive feedback. However, my recent visit here for my birthday lunch was nothing short of disappointing, marking a significant decline from the quality we had come to expect and enjoy in our previous visits.

The main issue lay in the quality of the food served. It was painfully evident that the dishes were not freshly prepared, but rather appeared to be pre-frozen and reheated. This severely impacted not only the taste but also the overall dining experience, reminding me of an episode from "Kitchen Nightmares." The thought of what might be happening behind the kitchen doors was unsettling.

The disappointment extended beyond the food. The state of the restaurant's amenities, including worn menus and an inadequately maintained high chair, contributed to an overall substandard experience. It was surprising and disheartening to witness such neglect in a place that once paid great attention to these details.

What was intended to be a celebratory birthday lunch turned into a desire to leave as soon as possible. It is truly saddening to write this, especially considering the fond memories my wife and I have of dining here.

I am hopeful that this review will be taken as constructive criticism. There is a dire need for significant improvements to bring the restaurant back to its former glory. Reflecting on and addressing these concerns could greatly enhance the dining experience for...

Frank’s Ristorante in Melbourne delivers a refined yet welcoming dining experience that truly stands out. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by an inviting atmosphere that combines elegance with a cozy charm. The decor is tastefully understated, creating a sophisticated backdrop without being overly formal.

The menu offers a delightful range of Italian classics, and the dishes are crafted with both skill and passion. I tried the Tagliatelle al Tartufo, which featured perfectly cooked pasta in a rich, aromatic truffle sauce that was both decadent and balanced. The flavors were vibrant, and the portion size was generous without being overwhelming.

Another highlight was the Margherita Pizza, with a perfectly thin and crispy crust topped with fresh mozzarella, basil, and a luscious tomato sauce. It was simple yet executed to perfection, showcasing the quality of the ingredients.

Service at Frank’s is attentive and knowledgeable, with staff eager to offer recommendations and ensure a pleasant dining experience. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, featuring a selection of Italian and local wines that pair beautifully with the menu offerings.

Overall, Frank’s Ristorante offers a charming escape into Italian culinary tradition, with a combination of excellent food, warm service, and a refined atmosphere. It’s a wonderful spot for both a casual meal and...

Franks Seafood Restaurant in Essendon is truly a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates fresh, beautifully prepared seafood and pasta. From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience.

The menu offers an impressive variety of pasta and seafood dishes, each bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. The freshness of the produce is undeniable, and every dish reflects the care and expertise that goes into the kitchen. Whether it’s a simple grilled fish, a rich seafood pasta, or one of their signature platters, the quality is consistently outstanding.

What really elevates the experience, though, is the service. Jack Aziz and Caterina went above and beyond to ensure the evening was flawless. Their attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine friendliness created a welcoming environment that made the meal even more enjoyable. They struck the perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive, and their knowledge of the menu made recommendations spot-on.

Overall, Franks Seafood Restaurant isn’t just about great food—it’s about the complete dining experience. With exceptional dishes and the outstanding service provided by Jack and Caterina, it’s easy to see why this restaurant has such a strong reputation in the Essendon area. Highly recommended for anyone who loves seafood and appreciates...
