Five Grains Asian Kitchen — Restaurant in Melbourne

Just finished dinner here. Whilst the food was good the experience at the register disgusted us!! We were charged extra for eating "in". Now, nowhere on the menu or in the restaurant does it say there's a charge for eating in. The total was $32.90 so my husband gave the guy $35.00. Then we were told 'oh, it's $35', without any explanation why the amount due suddenly increased!! When we questioned this the young man at the register just looked at us blankly and then called another female employee because he obviously didn't understand us. She said it's a usual charge and that all restaurants do this! ...... Um..... I DON'T THINK SO !! We are so angry because this is dishonesty at it's sneakiest! It's not about the money, it's about total disclosure of costs!!! There's no no business ethic in this place.... Obviously. And to top it all off.... No receipts given. This TOTALLY ruined our night. So, if you're thinking of going there, don't, just get take away. Or better still, go somewhere else. Who knows what other charges they'll attach to your bill in the future!!...

Edit- 26/1/2025 We enjoyed another amazing dinner tonight. The young ladies serving are extremely nice. The satay sauce on the chicken skewers is next level amazing honestly they need to bottle and sell it in stores! All our food was once again the best asian food we've had. What I love just as much as the kind service and amazing food is that on move nights we've been there past close and they never rush us to leave and all the staff sit down to eat a feast together. Food: I ordered a seafood curry laksa soup, which only set me back $16.80! Now that may sound expensive but believe me, the amount of food given to me was colossal, a big bowl of soup with two types of noodles, a variety of seafood that looked like it came from a fisherman’s basket, what more could I ask for? Plus it tasted delicious.

Atmosphere: Cold nights are good for this place
