Frederic is one of those restaurants that feels effortlessly sophisticated without being pretentious. Tucked away in Cremorne, it’s a beautiful space – modern, elegant, and buzzing with atmosphere, but still relaxed enough that you feel comfortable settling in for a long meal.

The food is exceptional – classic European flavours with a modern Melbourne touch. The menu is thoughtful and seasonal, and every dish that came to our table was cooked with real precision. The steak tartare was perfectly seasoned, rich yet balanced, and the duck dish I had was cooked beautifully – tender meat with crispy skin and a sauce that tied everything together. My partner had the gnocchi, which was light, fluffy, and full of flavour.

The wine list is extensive, with both European and Australian options, and the staff know it inside-out. Their pairing suggestion for the duck was spot on and really elevated the dish.

Service at Frederic is polished, professional, and warm. The team clearly take pride in what they do – attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely passionate about the food and wine they’re serving.

What I love most is that Frederic manages to strike the balance between fine dining and casual dining – it feels special, but also welcoming and easy. Whether it’s a long lunch, a date night, or dinner with friends, it always delivers. A true gem in...

I was left with mixed feelings about Frédéric.

The service was good and attentive. That said, we were brought the wrong order and, when the server sensed our confusion, he enquired with the kitchen, and then grabbed all the place and took them to the correct table — there was no apology, or anything, which was kind of odd.

The atmosphere is nice. We were there for lunch and the place was filled with beautiful natural light.

The washrooms were also nice and very clean.

We decided to go for the Express Lunch Menu — Entree and Main for $49 (+ glass of wine $59).

I opted for the Swordfish Ceviche. I found the nashi pear overpowering and the taste of the fish wasn’t coming through at all. The seaweed crisp was nice and crunchy.

For a main, I chose the Porterhouse, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The whole grain mustard complemented it very nicely.

My companion enjoyed the Beef Tartare, whoever, we were very (unpleasantly) surprised by the size of the Barramundi, considering it was a main dish — I don’t even think it was 100g. That said, it was cooked nicely.

I also had a glass of rosé, which was very pleasant.

Overall, I liked it enough to give it another go.

They have a happy hour Monday-Friday 4-6 pm, which offers $3 Oysters, $15 Louis Roederer, $7 House Lager, $12 Spritz, and $10 Wine. I’d be keen on going to that and, maybe,...

Dined here on a Wednesday night and ordered their weekly roast special and several snacks and desserts:

Complimentary bread was ok but the butter and olive oil made it a lot more enjoying Potato hash; crispy, soft and creamy Anchovy on toast; very flavourful with a perfectly toasted base Chicken liver pâté profiterole; thick and creamy with a bit of sweetness from the rhubarb jam Tempura akoya oyster (on the specials board); crispy and tasty without a greasy aftertaste Roast pork loin with brussel sprouts; meat was pretty good with the savory sweet sauce mixed in with the mustard seeds but there was too much fat to meat ratio Flat white was tasty and not milky but it was served way before the desserts were ready Milk chocolate tart; rich and decadent, very smooth chocolate ganache with a thin tart base, flavour is balanced with some smoked caramel cream. Texture of the popcorn didn't go well with the tart Coffee flavoured soufflé; light and airy, sweet with a subtle coffee flavour, paired well with the ice cream

Overall the food was great. Staffs were friendly and helpful when going through the menu. Highlight was the snacks and the desserts were tasty as well but slightly on the...

My favourite cuisine is french and Voila, the first one I need to document about would be...of course french! The first ever french restaurant I went to was Jacques Raymond's restaurant in Toorak more than 14 years ago. Loved it and went twice before they closed down (it upset me deeply!). His legacy is now followed through his kids so definitely had to try Frederic@Richmond when it opened. Great food as you would expect from Jacques Raymond family! However, the portion sizes are too small..it’s literally couple of tablespoons. I am a light eater and it hardly filled me up. I have been twice already as I am ok with small sized dishes in a set menu style. I love it and will keep going back for sure!
