I ventured to Greek’n Out today, braving a Melbourne “spring” so cold and wet it felt like Zeus himself was emptying the dishwater of Olympus onto South Melbourne. I’ve experienced warmer embraces from tax audits.
Upon arrival, I discovered they had no indoor seating currently available. Naturally, I prepared myself to deliver a passionate speech about human rights, the Geneva Convention, and the cruel and unusual punishment of outdoor tables in a Melbourne drizzle.
But the staff — so polite, so gentle, so impossibly sweet — disarmed me entirely. When someone smiles at you like that, you’d willingly sit on an ice block and call it “Nordic fusion dining.” So we waited, and I enjoyed it, which is something I don’t say often, especially not about waiting, and we were sat inside.
Now, to the food. Dolmades that tasted like they’d been hand-rolled by a benevolent grandmother who could end wars with her cooking. Lamb cutlets so good I briefly considered offering to marry the chef, and I’m already in a committed relationship with my dry cleaner.
The beef kofta? A triumph. If all diplomacy were conducted over kofta like this, peace treaties would sign themselves. And the prawn saganaki — sizzling, luxurious, and dangerously addictive. I’d warn you to be careful, but frankly, you should throw caution to the wind. It’s Melbourne; the wind is already doing its part.
To finish, a glass of Greek Pinot that warmed me up more effectively than any heater they didn’t have. One sip and I felt like I was reclining on a Santorini terrace instead of shivering at a market, contemplating whether hypothermia can be cured with feta.
Greek’n Out is magnificent.
The weather was miserable. The service was angelic. The food was divine. And the wine… well, it convinced me to forgive Melbourne for being Melbourne.
I’ll be back — preferably when the gods stop using the city as a cold-air...
Read moreWas following this instgram page for a while so decided to leave essendon with a friend of mine to go and have the martinis with the eye that we kept on seeing and the loukoumades on the page . First when we went to order the waiter told us those martinis where just for an event and don’t have them , so why would you even post them on the page when you don’t have them in the menu . The kebab the lamb was tough and was not fresh the pita was oily and because I am Greek this was not Standards of a Greek souvlaki Then when we went to order the loukoumades the girl told us they can’t put the oil and make them as it takes time . So we basically left to come from the opposite side of the city and got none of the food we wanted to eat . When I expressed my opinion about the food she should have asked to give us a complimentary drink or something but she wasn’t really worried and fussed about it However our day was ruined, traveled all over to the city , paid for parking and not to have the experience we saw on there instagram so it’s all about the fake feed and in general had nothing of the above Sorry would not recommend this...
Read moreI am completely disappointed with the service and food at this restaurant. The four members of our group who attended the establishment ordered our food at the same time yet our food came out at different times instead of all together. Two members of the group had already finished their meals and my meal still had not even arrived and my sisters meal had to also be sent back twice due to missing key ingredients (not too sure how you can get that wrong). We had also asked the waitress multiple times where our food was and she was not giving us much of a response. We also were still waiting for a bowl of chips which came after we were all done with our food, despite this, the chips ended up being so salty that they were inedible. The meat was also overcooked and very dry. In my opinion I would not overpay for subpar food. The service was also shocking. After watching us complain, the chef patronised us by laughing, rather than offering his apologises. I usually do not complain or would go to the trouble to criticise the quality of a restaurant, however this...
