Hansik, located on A’Beckett Street in Melbourne, is a charming Korean restaurant and bar with warm, cozy interiors and a layout that feels much more spacious than most Asian street-side eateries. The seating is comfortable, the ambiance relaxed, and the service welcoming — making it a pleasant spot to enjoy a hearty Korean meal.
We tried the Yup Dduk, a popular Korean dish known for its spicy rice cake stew base (However, I did not include the rice cake as part of my Yup Dduk). It featured a bold, fiery sauce that’s slightly sweet, packed with flavor and heat. The version here came loaded with ramen, sausages, crispy fried dumplings (the outer layer wasn’t great although the stuffing was fine), and little soy-marinated quail eggs. It’s a dish made to be shared — hearty, addictive, and deeply satisfying. That said, I’d rate it an 8.5/10 just because of the dumplings.
Next, we went for the Hansik Signature Set – Kimchi Fried Rice, which honestly reminded us of an upgraded Indian thali (in the best way possible!). The star of the set is the generous bowl of kimchi fried rice, tossed with juicy shredded pork and topped with a perfectly done steamed egg salad. While not overly spicy, it was full of umami and very comforting.
The set came with several classic Korean side dishes (Banchan) including: Chicken Wings – crispy and coated in a sticky-sweet BBQ glaze, Spicy Braised Tofu (Not bad yet less flavour), Bean Sprout Salad, Seasoned Seaweed, Steamed Egg Salad over Greens, Soy-marinated Quail Eggs, Creamy Corn Salad, A small scoop of what seemed like a traditional Korean-style dessert. And of course, Kimchi was served on the side — fresh, crunchy, and nicely fermented.
Additionally, you also get beverages, Korean Specials, cocktails and beer here.
Overall, it was a good experience both in terms of food and ambience. The menu has several other tempting options too — we were especially intrigued by their Korean pancakes, which looked like meat-filled pizzas.
If you’re looking to explore authentic Korean flavors in a more cozy and comfortable dine-in setting, Hansik is definitely...
Read moreI rarely criticize a restaurant directly, but today's experience really made me want to complain. First of all, I don’t know if it was a problem with my phone or the restaurant’s reception. When ordering food using the QR code, my phone’s network connection took a long time before the menu popped up. I'm allergic to prawns so I originally ordered the seafood tofu soup with the note that dont put prawns. Then a female staff came over with food in her mouth and asked me if I was allergic to prawns (I'm 100% sure she was eating). Miss, can you be more professional at work? Then she confirmed with the kitchen staff that the soup contained prawn, so I switched to the kimchi pork soup. I must say, this is the worst Korean food I have had recently, all the side dishes were terrible, the only good thing was the bowl of rice, I finished the soup because I pay for it. The only advantage is that there is a discount if you pay in cash. There are several Korean restaurants nearby. Please make the food better. By the way, The three stars are for the other female staff who...
