Great place for a quick takeaway work lunch. Fantastic sandwiches, good price.
I had the toasted sandwich with beef and pickles. Generous amount of meat with fat running through it. Balance is pretty hard to achieve with such strong flavours, especially saltiness from the beef vs sourness from the mustard sauce and pickles, but theyâve done this really well. Great textures throughout, with perfectly toasted crispy bread, lots of layers of brisket and some crunch from the sauerkraut.
Edit: Tried the tuna melt - pretty textbook, very heavy and generous with filling. Perfectly grilled bread.
Also tried the fried chicken which had a crazy huge fillet. Phenomenal texture - ultra juicy on the inside and a beautiful crisp on the outside. Flavour wise nothing particularly exciting (batter didnât have too much in the way of spices), and the sauce had quite a bit of tang - too much sourness for my taste. Potato bun was also kind of odd - chewy and not in a particularly pleasant way.
Verdict: beef and pickles still the best...
Read moreGlad to see @Hectors_Deli open up in the CBD. I had the fried chicken sandwich and was given a choice of breast or thigh, I went with the latter on the recommendation of the staff member. I love the white uniforms from a bygone era. Despite the hungry throng, service is friendly.
Opening up the packet reveals a generous deep golden brown crunchy chicken piece sticking out of both sides of the bun. One bite in reveals crunchy fried chicken with a thin but crispy coating enhanced with a dash of spices, coating succulent chicken cooked perfectly. A lovely mayonnaise which a slight touch of tartness to balance any richness from the fried chicken pairs well with the lettuce, and a herbed butter. The bun is maybe a bit small and non-descript. It's a messy but delicious meal, just need to drain the chicken of oil a little longer, and maybe consider some additional ingredients to add more freshness.

Read moreIâm off to go block the content creator that was screaming the house down about this place.
Hectors deli was one of the first Melbourne places recommended to me by TikTok and after I missed out on it the first time I was visiting, I made sure to make it this time round.
The service was really great, I appreciate their upbeat attitude despite the rolling lines out the door. The interior design was fun. Felt like I was in a sandwich bar in the states but unfortunately eating with my eyes isnt enough.
We got the tuna melt and the mushroom melt. My friend found her tuna melt to be dry whilst I found my mushroom melt to be quite one dimensional in flavour and salty.
We both consumed only half of it and couldnât eat the rest. It was nothing bad but we didnât want to waste our limited stomach space on this sandwich when we had so many eats we wanted to visit. Perhaps we ordered the wrong sandwich which is why we had such a different experience to what is...
