Should be considered an institution by now … i’ve never had a better cinema experience than at Kino. Never felt like cattle being herded, staff are all keen to see individual customers and greet them. It seems like they must treat them well and I hope they do because they really are fantastic.

Nice mix of ā€˜blockbusters’ and more uncommon sort of films. Have some great festivals, i remember seeing films here that have really opened my eyes to other parts of the world and other cultures. As well as giving me a healthy dose of Swedish and French nostalgia.

Appear to be intent on giving back to their customers and making the ā€œexperienceā€ better.

Oh one item of feedback actually, wine glasses don’t fit in the holes next to the seats for drinks pretty easily … I appreciate there is no sustainable solution to this, you either have to change the plastic cup holder or change glasses.

Which is expensive and a waste for the environment … so i’m going to just deal with it and just be grateful that there’s a cinema where I can get a nice glass of wine with my film.

Another thing, the customers all seem pretty respectful of their rules and i’ve never had an over-talker or a messy and loud person at this cinema (i’m sure they’ll have some stories but by in large it seems good). Even whilst a few years ago when we made the mistake of watching ā€œholmes and sherlockā€ … which frankly could have done with a bit of interrupting. The best joke in that film was someone turning to their viewing partner and rather accidentally loudly saying ā€œis it me or is this a steaming pile of merde?ā€ … the 6 of us left in the room agreed and just sort of carried on being subjected to it … what a lovely shared experience.

I also saw Rojo here and then wound up reading an entire 20th century history of Argentina.

We’ve seen the whole world here, from Of Gods and Men to Detective Pikachu. And their prices for admission are fantastic.

Yes wouldn’t it be great to have projectionists etc but you know what, in 2022, in Melbourne, for $18-25 a ticket, this is the...

I’ve visited the cinema here twice, and we really enjoy it. The building is beautiful, and overall, it’s a pleasant experience. However, I do have a concern I’d like to share. I believe the staff could improve by checking tickets at entry and conducting random checks throughout the movie. This may seem like an overreaction, but I felt uneasy during our last visit, and I want to share why.

My partner and I went to a late movie, around 8 or 9 PM. While in the food court, I noticed a man packing several backpacks and IGA bags, though I didn’t think much of it at the time. However, when we entered our cinema, he followed us in a few minutes later and sat about halfway down in the cinema, while we chose the back row of four seats. He brought his bags with him.

When the movie began, he suddenly moved to the end of our aisle, blocking us in by putting his feet up on the seat in front of us. I felt an immediate sense of unease and a sinking feeling in my stomach. Fortunately, nothing happened, but the situation made me nervous for the rest of the movie, especially since we had no clear escape route if something went wrong, not even for a bathroom break. About 10 minutes into the film, he fell asleep while we were still trapped in the row.

What concerned me further was the lack of staff checks in the cinema. We are fairly certain he didn’t have a ticket. In hindsight, I regret not asking for a refund as the whole experience left me feeling on edge. I believe in trusting my instincts, and this situation felt off. A simple solution would be for staff to check tickets upon entry and make occasional rounds during the movie.

I hope this feedback helps, as I’m sure it would create a more secure environment for...

now to preface - i love this cinema. i love the location, the screen size, the prices, the setup , everything - and i have been coming here since i was young .. however , the most recent experience was abysmal at best. the woman who served my partner and i was one of the rudest and bluntest staff i have come across. after approaching the counter and choosing the movie she asked us if we had a ā€œrewards cardā€ , which we responded no. she then charged us full price for the tickets. we queried whether we can get student discounts as we are both university students, and she very aggressively replied ā€œi already asked you that. Did you not listenā€. obviously, she had not asked. she then begrudgingly fixed the pricing whilst frowning and emitting an extremely pissed off vibe. No eye contact, no thank you, no hello, nothing. She handed us the tickets without a word and walked off. Didn’t ask if we wanted to buy snacks, nothing. anyway, it made the rest of the night pretty uncomfortable and it was by far one of the rudest customer service experiences i have had. she had a fringe in a wolfcut and little tattoos on her arms. seriously would reconsider who you hire as we will be avoiding this cinema due to her...

Kino Cinemas is my cinema of choice in the CBD. Generally it is not oversubscribed and occasionally I have positively had what felt like a private screening of a film due to the low numbers. I love that you can grab a drink at the bar and take it into the cinema with you. Offering a good range of movies from the latest Hollywood blockbusters to the more obscure arty & foreign language films. They also host the many film festivals that happen throughout the year. There are only a handful of screens and the cinemas range in size according to the expected audience size so you may find yourself in the small & compact cinema or the larger ones. The seats are very comfortable with ample leg room for most. Seats are not allocated so I would recommend heading there early if going at a peak time, to a new release film or to a film that is part of a film festival as I know those sessions are often very popular. I would definitely recommend taking a jumper and/or cardigan with you as the air con can get just a little chilly, especially if there are only a handful of you in the screening.

I always enjoy visiting Kino Cinema, have done off and on for the past few decades, it's in a very convenient location, not far from Parliament Train Station or car parking at 28 Flinders Ln. Wilson Car Park, first 2hrs free if visiting Kino! Today I saw The United States vs Billie Holiday, it's a very good movie Andra Day is excellent portraying the life of a tortured star, being a woman of colour, a woman star, using drugs to pacify the trauma, being pursued by the FBI because she sang "Strange Fruit" a very powerful song, sung a a kind of lament, sad, about the lynching of coloured people, which went unpunished by those who swore to uphold the law! As one patron said out a loud when a bill to stop lynching has still not been passed by the US senate in 2020, no wonder the the place is such a F..... g mess! Visit Kino watch the movie!

The cinema is much smaller relative to the big chains (Hoyts/Village). I was actually surprised at how small it all was. And it turned out Fantastic! The theater our movie was in on the smaller side (4 rows, ~40 person capacity), with a smaller screen, and all that did was lead to a great viewing experience. With comfortable seats and clear viewing regardless of position, it was great. The best thing about the cinema was all of the attendees. On a Saturday afternoon, no kids in sight, no teenagers. Just adults who didn't sneakily check their phones during the movie and weren't disruptive. I'd highly recommend trying a movie here.
