Houhai Dumpling House — Restaurant in Melbourne

We've been meaning to come here for a while and finally did it. Why did we wait so long?! The food was SO GOOD, so tasty. And cheap! The dumpling wrappers were such a beautiful texture and the prawn and ginger stuffing was so fresh. We also had a tofu, Sichuan pepper, chili stir fry, then the black fungus, cabbage, carrot noodles. My partner also then insisted on sweet & sour pork. This was far too much food for 2 people but we were happy to have left overs for the next few days, and had trouble stopping when we were full on account of how damn tasty it a was. Authentic, non-pretentious, affordable, delicious, hidden gem. 10/10 would recommend. Didn't actually get my food. Waited an hour and decided to leave. Terrible waitress. Did not communicate cooking times or offer any alternatives. Super unprofessional. Basically took our order and then neglected us for the next hour. Wait staff should be informed of any delays and should know how to properly apologise to customers. Instead of the food coming all at once one person got their food after 20mins, the next at 40 minutes, and mine...well we already know I didn't eat. Food should arrive at the same time. Went here a couple of months ago, and the service was EXTREMELY SLOW. There were only a few groups of people in the shop, yet it took about an hour for the dumplings to come. What was very frustrating was that take aways and deliveries were being completed quickly. After about 40mins wait time I queried if the food was coming soon. An indifferent "Yes" was the reply. The first batch out were soggy and cold. Clearly a rush job and if I wasn't starving I would have deemed them inedible.
