I’ve met some beautiful humans over the decade, while leaving my footprint on Melbourne’s coffee scene, and sometimes, just sometimes, I’m blessed enough to meet beautiful couples. Julie Ekman and Michael Giffening are one such couple. New to the café world, the pair decided to take a leap of faith this year, and turn Julie’s dream into a reality. Driven initially by health concerns, which were soon paired with ethical motives, Julie felt there was a lack of plant-based cafes catering for those craving an animal free diet. Hence Jumis was born in the health-conscious inner suburb of South Yarra. The word itself is an acronym referencing the creators’ first names, and also stands for “Just Uplifting Mouth-watering Ingredients”, which is exactly what you are going to get at this Chapel Street café. The mouth-watering begins with a selection of smoothies bowls made with all the colours of the rainbow, and nutrient rich ingredients like blue spirulina, and hemp seeds, matched by Nourishing Bowls, and Super Toasties made using organic sourdough. I tucked into the Falafel Bowl, loaded with zoodles, raw almonds, and a house made beetroot hummus that had me asking for extras! Coffee is sourced from Five Senses, with their Crompton Road Blend offering a smooth body with hints of chocolate...

A 100% plant based cafe specialising in freshly made morning breakfast options. We tried the rainbow sandwich which is a slaw sandwich full of so many goodness, feels very light and refreshing to eat. Must try.
The Reuben toastie was so satisfying and yummy, loved the combination of the flavours of sauerkraut, mustard, cheddar and Russian dressing besides tomato, tempeh and pickles. Highly recommended
Green machine and stay up beet juices are very filling, yet light and fresh. Both were equally amazing and must try.
The nutter açai bowl is perfect for someone who loves a strong nutty taste, and their house made almond butter is the key factor in this açai bowl, making it so irresistible, mouthwatering and very delicious. The açai is of good quality, and you could tell right from the very first try. Highly recommend.
The service is fantastic, prompt and attentive and the staff here are all super helpful, cheerful, friendly and very welcoming in nature. The prices are way better and reasonable than some overpriced açai places, also their quality is really supreme.
So why not make your Monday mornings wiser by grabbing a nutritious, vegan brekkie...
Read moreLove their twist on an acai bowl with their macqui bowls made with maqui berries whipped with coconut milk & cream to create an ice cream consistency - prefer this over my regular acai as I find this stays in that thick consistency more than your usual watery acai bowls.
Next door to a well-established acai bowl and smoothie place, I’m surprised people don’t hop into this store more as they do one of the best acai and macqui bowls in Melbourne.
Maqui comfort bowl (5/5): Not too sweet and had the most perfect consistency as a base I have ever had in Melbourne cafes and smoothie bars. Fruit was super fresh, and they make you realise you don’t need a lot of toppings to make a good acai bowl if their toppings are made to perfection. I’m talking about their house made peanut butter and CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER SPREAD which is to die for. Not a fan of chocolate and this won me over for having one of the best house made nut butter spreads. Heard their almond butter is just as good.
Staff were kind enough to cater to my particular personality and give me half of the PB and half of the choc PB without charging extra.
Although not many variations, they do a simple yet perfect acai and maqui smoothie bowl.
