There are few Pasific branches around Melbourne and this time we're trying the one in South Yarra. We came with a group of five people on the weekend when we came, the restaurant was pretty busy but not too packed. The restaurant has plenty seats available and quite spacious, therefore it was still recommended to reserve the place to have better spot but don't worry that you won't get any seats if you don't reserve the table.
As soon as you were seated then you will be served a complimentary chicken soup and chinese tea. The customer staffs was alright. The vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant was alright, a typical Chinese restaurant.
We ordered: Sweet & Sour Chicken in Batter for $23.00. The chicken was well fried, it was served crispy and crunchy. Unfortunately, the taste of the sauce was average and nothing special. Surely, it wasn't the best sweet & sour chicken we've every tried.
Fillet Mignon with Black Pepper Sauce for $25.00. This one was one of the favourite dishes we ordered. The beef was very tender and juicy covered in the great black pepper sauce. The sauce wasn't too strong either which was even better. We're definitely happy to recommend this dish.
Deep Fried Calamari with Spict Salt & Chilli for $24.00. Calamari was served in generous portion. It was served warm, crispy from the outside but very tender inside. Personally, if you eat the Calamari by itself, it would be too tasty (salty) therefore Jasmine rice was the great companion to enjoy this dish.
Stir Fried Vegetables & Bean Curd for $22.00. The dish was freshly served from the wok and used good quality of the vegetables as you could see from the green and clear color of the vegetables. The taste was pretty good as well. Unfortunately, the vegetables wasn't finely cut as some of them were too large.
Overall, the taste of their dishes was pretty good and slightly above average. You'll be looking to spend around $22.00 - $26.00 per person excluding the drinks.

Read moreExtremely disappointed with tonight’s experience at Pacific House South Yarra - we usually have a great experience and hence had booked two round tables for 22 guests months in advance for a special family reunion dinner, however, upon arrival, I was shocked to be shown two square tables for 22 guests - absolutely absurd.
I spoke to the restaurant staff who only could tell me the other round tables are not available and I told them I made this booking months in advance, and also came in to the restaurant the prior week to confirm my booking for two round tables for 22 guests and the lady at the counter said yes, it’s confirmed.
The restaurant staff then came back after a few minutes and went back on his word and said he can offer me two other round tables but they will be quite far away from each other - I responded saying that is the whole reason I requested for the two round tables next to each other when I booked months ago. The staff then also told me he could not give me the other round table because some “regulars” had asked for that table. So does this mean my booking much earlier in advance holds no value?
Moral of the story - don’t bother coming here if you’re planning to have more than one table to treat a large group of guests. We spent thousands of dollars here only to be treated with terrible service (I ended up having to go with the two square tables as my guests were all arriving and it was getting messy). They also got the lobster order wrong (they served sweet and sour when I ordered ginger and shallots) and did not compensate us with anything other than a $6 plate of noodles.
We won’t step foot here again - perhaps after gaining fame, they’ve lost their heads which is most disappointing. You’re better off going to Pacific House in Richmond for better service and food that...
Read moreVery crowded and noisy but that reflects how good the food and drink was; huge choice, nicely presented, nice tasting and well priced and good sized portions. Between us we ordered beef, tofu, roast duck and seafood options. The beef was silky smooth and soft with a nice mix of herbs and spices that didn't overpower the meat and vegetables. The ½ roast duck was some of the best ive eaten, crispy skin and the meat was fall off the bone tender. The seafood was excellent, the prawns were crispy and firm to the bite and the scallops were perfect, firm and juicy whilst the sauce was just the right consistency, not so runny it ended up all over your shirt but also thick it was all you could see of your food. The tofu was really good, our strictly non vegetarian diner ate it thinking it was some sort of meat. I'll. Yes the place was packed in tight but there was always a waiter to hand and they knew their menu and had excellent recommendations for each diners likes. Pricing was at the higher end at about $85 per person but the food was more like what you'd get in Sth East Asia than the usual "whitemans" Asian served in most restaurants, pubs etc. across Australia. Biggest issue is finding parking, we got lucky and parked across the road but another had to park nearly a kilometre away in a multi level...
