I was so disappointed after my last visit to Jungle Boy.
This used to be my favourite bar, but when we visited recently, the zombie cocktail had gone up in price (which I expected), but had dramatically shrunk in size (prob 2/3rds the size) and was a different recipe. It used to be a cheeky boozy cocktail but is now mostly ice and tastes like juice. Also where did the fun tiki cups go?
The method of having the cocktail set on fire has changed from a grand performance to a budget production. The attached photo is what it used to look like. The bartender would sprinkle, I assume, cinnamon to create sparks. The firey sugary lime would burn and caramelized and add flavor to the drink, but now the bartender places a dried orange and a sugar cube on top, lights it on fire and sprays a mystery liquid out of a bottle. Thereâs no magic there.
Itâs still a beautiful bar but I will only be ordering wine from now on as $27 a cocktail was definitely not worth it.
Sad to see the sub facade change as well, not so much a...
Read moreLooks like a sandwich bar and serves food... but the queue you may see inside is likely for the bar out back. Reminded me of the video clip for Wandering Eye, by Fat Freddy's Drop. Even if you only have one hour to spare, pop in for at least one drink!!!
The bar is right up front as you walk in and there are different seating options to suit couples or groups. It has an outdoor feel, the theme definitley comes through with the decor and shirts worn by the staff. Nice touch to trick the brain into forgetting its winter and cold outside!
Unisex toilets are clean and tidy, music was good and we enjoyed the vibe. The atmosphere was positive and upbeat but chilled out and everyone seemed pretty content. It felt like we had stepped away and were on vacation, even the staff seemed happy!
Cocktail list looked great but I'm on a tight budget so I was happy with the servers suggestions and appreciated how friendly he was. Couldn't remember his name but I do remember he was from...
Read morebit of a scam. i came here with a couple of friends. the staff were nice, maybe tried a bit too hard to be nice but that's ok, whatever. the decor of this place is very heart of darkness. colonial depictions of black and indigenous people. the owner was really charming and spent some time chatting to us. he "invited" us to taste his personally distilled lychee spirit. he presented this as a product he was not selling at his bar and that it was for "wholesale only". we paid for our drinks at the end but were surprised and awkward to find an extra charge of $36 for the spirit. this drink was pretty nice tbf we were initially pleased he had shared his creation with us. but we were sad to learn that the guy had just been pushing sales and ultimately had squeezed money from us under false pretences... i dunno the whole thing left me with a really sad impression of what it means to be a human and to have human...
