2021 review I have subtracted the star because as mentioned by others. A korean restaurant with no side dishes as complimentary. Soup was not flavourful and beef ribs were sickly sweet. Wouldn't be coming back too many better quality and affordable korean restaurants nearby.
Prior to 2018 Service is alright. Flavour has changed or maybe because it was busy they neglect the quality delivered to the table. The Korean pancake was soft with only a hint of crispness on a few of the edges. The banchan was my highlight. Beef ribs soup was a tad sweet and lacking the oomph from other Korean soups along this stretch of street. We've been visiting this restaurant in the last five years but the flavour has changed, the pricing has gone up but not the quantity nor the quality. Service is speedy and polite. Just wished they took a little more care in their dishes before serving. I'm not Korean but I think my cooking skills, though mediocre, is comparable to the current quality. We remember during our first few years dining here we always left amazed and wanting to come back the week after. Only in recent years, we had to remind ourselves to dine elsewhere because the flavour has been disappointing. We are Asian and enjoy all cuisines in their entirety and original motherland form. Not the 'please the customer form'. We like the original home cook or traditional variety. In short, they've lost touch of their...

This time we ordered: Fried chicken wings Korea style, Jjamppong, kimchi jjigae, Japchae, bbq ribs.
Fried chicken wings🍗🍗 : just ok (we ordered as our youngest one love fried chicken)
Jjamppong🍲: this one is very good and the chef even accommodate for my extra spicy special request. One serve is big enough for 2 or 3 people.
Kimchi jjigae🍲: this one is exceptional, the broth is so full of flavour and fresh.
Japchae 🍜: this one also just ok, maybe a little bit too much oil but flavour is there.
Bbq ribs🍖: yummy full of flavour and big serve as well.
Verdict : kimchi grandma is still a good place to visit when you crave for Korean food with decent pricing.
So why the 4 star instead of the 4, well a number of things. The banchan which is a must in any Korean eating place is no longer free (charged 1 dollar per small plate), the place I think needs a better lighting.
Other than that I think this place is a gem, will definately visit again. Also to add the new friendly owner just recently take over the business so maybe there will be slight adjustment to the flavour but so far it's been positive...

Sam Gae Tang $28 Galbi (Beef spare ribs) $25.5 Seafood Pancake $16.5 Original Fried Chicken $25 White Rice
My dinning experience was a complete let down. I used to come here for some nice homey Korean food whenever I’m around the area. I’m pretty sure I won’t come back again after this visit.
They had 4 staffs working on a busy Saturday night. Every time I needed something, I had to wave my hand for almost 5 mins to get a respond. Their side dishes are not free anymore. Can you imagine a Korean restaurant not serving side dishes for free? I’m not talking about refills, they are charging $1 per side dishe which was not like this before. Ordered 4 dishes only and they missed one of our orders. At least, the waitress apologised to us. Food quality has dropped. Their fried chicken was BLAND! No seasoning at all! I could barely taste the Ginseng in my Ginseng Chicken soup. The LA ribs was alright, slightly too sweet for my liking. My one star goes to the seafood pancake. Super crispy on the outside and a bit chewy on the inside. That’s the only...
