Two dishes that truly stood out was the platter for two, coupling, flavorful ground meat, and coupling with the ancient grain salad, it was a true masterpiece. The flavors harmonized perfectly, creating a symphony of taste that left me wanting more. The souvlaki was equally impressive, with succulent grilled meats perfectly seasoned and served with a refreshing tzatziki sauce.

Read moreI visited Kolonaki Athenian Street Food in September 2025 with some friends on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. Parking was easy and we found plenty of free street spots nearby. Plus a small lot that was also free on weekends. Public transport is a breeze too, with trams running along Glenferrie Road and Malvern Station a short walk away.
The restaurant sits on a street corner with a few outdoor tables, and inside it’s cosy and welcoming. The smell of the food hit us as soon as we walked in. There’s a counter at the front for ordering and drinks, with a neat line of tables that had plenty of space for our group of four. The service was so friendly and helpful from the moment we ordered.
I went for the garlic lamb wrap, which came out within about 15–20 minutes and was honestly amazing! Super juicy lamb, packed with flavour, and the extra onion I asked for (which they really delivered on!). It was a little greasy, but in the best way. One of my friends ordered the same wrap but with halloumi added, another went for a mixed gyros, and we all shared a bowl of sweet potato fries. Everything looked beautiful, was presented really well, and tasted fantastic. My friends were just as impressed, they kept complimenting the food the whole way through, even the chips were a hit.
The atmosphere was buzzing for a Saturday afternoon, with the restaurant full of happy patrons. The decor is cute and warm, making it feel really inviting on what was otherwise a dreary day outside. I couldn’t quite finish my wrap, but they happily provided a little box so I could take the rest home. My friends, on the other hand, polished theirs off with no trouble at all.
For a group of four, we spent under $80 in total, which felt very reasonable for the serving sizes and quality of food. Between the great flavours, friendly service, and cosy vibe, Kolonaki is an absolute gem in Malvern. If you’re into Greek food or just looking for a good meal in the area, I highly recommend giving...
Read moreI ordered chicken skewers and greek salad and was told it was a 15 to 20 minute wait. At 25 minutes I asked the young guy at the counter if he could check if my food had been forgotten because I was watching people who had ordered after me leave with theirs. He repeated the order back and didn't check . Following that conversation, another lady walked in, ordered food, paid for it, got her food and mouthed a sorry to me on the way out and so I was pretty mad by then. I pointed out the 35 min wait and got a look of "you are so demanding (and explanation- it's the chicken skewers, they take a long time). The group around me at that point, planning on eating in, actually walked out. At 40 mins, my food arrived. If you want to eat here, order uber or eat in. They prioritise uber eats over take away. As for a 40 minute wait, I was at the point of walking out without it and was going to say that, but I got mad at the explanation and grimace as if I were being unreasonable, so I changed my conversation to "Move". That was just not cool. That needs a new process guys. That's a business. Sort it out. That's not me being unreasonable - that's on you. You cannot tell someone that it's a 15 to 20 min wait and then make it 40 mins. That's super bad. You gotta come up with a better plan for those take away chicken skewers!!!!!! (and you should probably refund after 40 minutes of waiting) I will take this down after someone who owns this business reads it, and fixes the process because to have that response to asking if my food was forgotten wasn't great. It just wasn't great - nor is the chicken skewer food production line for take away orders. It was going to be a happy night with some good food and it just wasn't. Be great....
