La Petite Société — Restaurant in Melbourne

Thrilled to have wine bar in the area - great atmosphere, cocktails always excellent, good wine list. Overall service is always lovely - have been a semi regular since it opened. Mark down due to having 4-6pm booking and having a bill put in front of me at 5.40pm with directions to vacate for next booking. No suggestion was made to move outside, no suggestion of a last drink. Felt like a strong assumption that is was my booking that would be cut short in order to accommodate the 6pm arrival - rather than waiting for us to vacate at close to 6pm for a quick table reset. We were then asked to vacate 2 more times before 5.50pm. Purpose of reviews is to share experiences and let people judge for themselves. For me, this was not a good experience and we felt rushed after only 90 minutes. Paid ($300+ for 3 people) bill at 5.58pm. Will rethink next booking - perhaps the 6pm slot is better? or perhaps if you don't want to feel rushed I would recommend a larger venue - a wine bar in Martin Street / Bay Street / Hampton Street. I’m truly disappointed with my experience. Honestly, I just wanted to enjoy my afternoon and have a drink at La Petite Société, but we were clearly asked to leave after three rather awkward attempts. I can understand if there was a mistake, like forgetting to inform us that the table was reserved (if that was even true), but the least you could have done was apologize.

Instead, three different people came to ask us to leave while our bottle of wine wasn’t even finished. It was truly shameful. As a French customer, I came here expecting a pleasant experience, and I’m deeply disappointed. Thank you to the manager for having the courage to send young staff to handle the situation instead of taking responsibility themselves. Clearly, you have absolutely no understanding of what french brasseries are about....

Our great little local wine bar! The staff are great and relaxed in their manner, the atmosphere is cozy and full of life when at capacity. The food they serve from my extensive testing is all tasty and good quality. The cocktails have a lot of standouts specials with all the classics covered as well. The wine by the glass could have a few more options, but their wine specials help address this. Their wine list is thoughtfully selected, so there should be something for everyone. Ultimately the venue and the kitchen is limited by its size (yes it's in the name) this means what is on offer both from the kitchen and the cellar has its limits, but what they offer is well...
