An Absolute Must-See... If You're a Fan of Absurdity

Well, I'm giving this place a five-star review, because what's funnier than paying a million dollars for what is essentially a glorified shed on a packed beach? I first came to this great country back in 2017, barely, after being interrogated at the border like a suspected international criminal—you know, because Australia is such a well-known police state.

Anyway, we had a great time with the kids. I mean, what’s not to love? You get to stand right next to strangers on a perfectly average beach, all while pondering the sheer value of those tiny, overpriced shacks. A million quid for a beach house where your neighbor is so close you can hear their thoughts? Nah, thank you. I'll pass, Jesus.

It's truly a testament to the human spirit's ability to find joy in a ridiculously expensive, underwhelming experience. Go on, give it a visit! You'll laugh, you'll cry,...

There are 82 distinctive bathing boxes. Sitting in a uniform row these proportioned wooden structures line the foreshore along Brighton Beach.

The boxes were built well over a hundred years ago in response to Victorian ideas of correctness and seaside bathing etiquette. The bathing boxes remain almost unchanged.

All of them retain classic Victorian architectural features with timber framing, weatherboards and corrugated iron roofs. They have been customised with beautiful artworks and decor by their owners. Sometimes you will see them up for sale at around Aud $300k average. Theyre mostly owned by locals and are handy to store beach items (jet ski, chairs, umbrellas, etc) for a day...

There are 90 bathing boxes altogether and it only took me 25 mins to walk from one end to the other and back. Some have nice murals on it, but the plain ones are just as beautiful!

You can get there by direct train from flinders st station stopping at Brighton Beach station. It’s about a 30mins journey, and a 15 mins walk from the station to the destination.

Great for taking photos, but I wouldn’t recommend going there for the beach. Not much shade, and best to bring your own food and drinks as there’s no cafe...
