We had a delightful experience at Lagotto Restaurant on our Wednesday date night, and would highly recommend it for those looking for a memorable dining experience.

The venue initially appears small, but once inside, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the spacious layout. The simplistic decor, devoid of excessive wall decorations, adds to the ambiance. The prompt greeting upon arrival made us feel welcome, and we chose to dine at the bar.

The wine selection was a treat, and we opted for Italian wines that were both fruity and earthy, with an organic touch. There were also Australian wines on offer for variety.

For the entree, we tried the wholemeal potato focaccia with melted brown butter – an absolute must-try that left us craving more. The flavors were exceptional. The octopus carpaccio with potato toile, lemon, and piment d’espellete was equally impressive, showcasing a delightful balance of textures and tastes.

Moving on to the mains, the chestnut tortellini with Parmesan, black truffle, and saltbush was a true standout, combining rich flavours with a creative twist. The squid ink bigoli with Moreton Bay Bugs, bisque, and prawn oil was equally delightful and a true testament to the chef's creativity.

We also enjoyed a side of day's walk farm leaves with honey and mandarin vinaigrette, which added a refreshing touch to the meal.

The service was impeccable, with our waitress displaying an impressive knowledge of the menu. Her expertise helped guide our choices and enhance our overall experience.

In conclusion, Lagotto Restaurant earned a well-deserved score of 4.7 out of 5 in my books. It's an excellent choice for a date night, offering a cozy atmosphere and exceptional dishes. I look forward to returning soon to enjoy their culinary delights once again. There was truly nothing to fault...

ORDERED: 🍞 Wholemeal sourdough focaccia, smoked maple butter ($10.00) 🧀 Burrata, salsa verde e rossa, focaccia crumb ($27.00)

🍝 Squid ink bigoli, moreton bay bug, san marzano prawn napoli ($65.00) 🥔 Kipfler potatoes, comte, oregano ($13.00)

🍪 Tiramichoux, espresso gelato, mascarpone, gianduja caramel ($18.00)

Between two people, this was $67.30pp

REVIEW: 👍 I like the sourdough and the burrata at Lagotto. It's a solid combination - hints of rosemary on a pliable soft bread that dips and hugs the refreshing burrata. Surrounding the burrata was an army of salsa verde e rossa, who have got a bit of uncomfortable savouriness to them. Beware! They will not join the territory in your mouth willingly. 🤺

Mains were mid for me. Bigoli is the long a thick strand type of spaghetti, a fun little number to twirl on your spoon. If you're too wild with it, you will shoot some tomato sauce splatters onto your dinner partners! 🍅 The tomato napoli wasn't for me, giving this seafood a savoury warring touch as opposed to a refreshing wind from the crisp ocean that I typically hold as my golden standard. In my opinion, I enjoy seafood with more simple flavours! Kipfler potatoes weren't incredibly exciting either. 🤨

Tiramichoux was fun and is a definite order. Capped with a light airy pastry, it was a little intimidating to squish out the insides! I will say, I didn't vibe with the overly bitter espresso. We were digging for the mascarpone to add a little bit more sweetness to the situation. 🍦🏒

Service was friendly, interior is gorgeous. The fit out is fun, a warm inviting environment speckled with wood and dark plum colours while taking advantage of the natural lighting. Good...

Lagotto has been on my list for a long time and it was such a privilege to try their truffle menu. Everything was impeccable and I cannot stop raving about their focaccia. It was fluffy, soft and moist with a nice crispy crust. Every bite was heavenly, especially with the truffle butter. Seriously I wouldn’t mind driving all the way to Fitzroy just for their bread 🤤 Another highlight was the chestnut tortellini. The chestnut filling was smooth with a tad of sweetness, wrapped with the silkiest pasta and served with a gorgeous cheesy truffle brown butter sauce. Chef kiss 💋 Their dessert was equally amazing. The choux bun was super light and airy. Can’t think of any other restaurants that can top it. $150 was absolutely worthy for this meal. They also serve special set menu every Sunday which is $75. I’m already planning my next visit! Highly highly recommend Lagotto for a casual lunch date or a romantic...

⭐️Focaccia, Maple Butter ⭐️ Potato Bombolini, Spanner Crab ➖ Gnoccho Fritto, Wagyu Bresaola ➖ Squid Ink Pasta, Moreton Bay Bug ➖ Kifler Potatoes, Taleggio Lagotto is a chic, Italian restaurant and wine bar located in Fitzroy North. The kitchen is lead by Italian born head chef Matteo Fulchiati (Lakehouse, Osteria Ilaria), offering a modern Italian-Australian inspired menu designed to share. You will also find Lagotto To Go, a small, curated wine and liquor store. 🇮🇹 The venue is stunning, featuring terrazzo, marble, timber and burgundy banquets. They offer outdoor and indoor seating, as well as the at bar where we decided on. Here you get a bit more of a BTS look of the plating and kitchen. Highlights for us definitely had to be that incredible Focaccia paired with maple butter and the Bombolini, which had so much flavour and some chilli to mop it all up with. The Gnoccho Fritto was nice but instantly compared it to the faultless version at Gimlet. I always hope they would be filled, especially for the price point. The Moreton Bay Bug Pasta had a strong seafood flavour, which wasn’t to my taste but my friend @alexsfoodieadventures loved it! The Kifler Potatoes were another miss for me, they needed more seasoning and were on a bed of cheese too pungent for me. Although my choices on this visit maybe weren’t perfectly suited to my personal taste, I was still very impressed with the friendly service, impeccable cocktails and inventive menu. Every Sunday they offer a “Wine with Friends” special set menu for $75pp, I’ll definitely be back to give that a try! 🍝 ⭐️ 3.7/5 💸 $$
