Some of the places that I write about I find by sheer serendipity. Today was one of those days. In Seddon to visit the #compoundpharmacy I strolled up and down the streets on a beautiful sunny day and stopped to read the menu outside of @lola.seddon to see they had one of my favourite snacks - #cornfritters Hmmm, how could I resist? Street side dining or inside? The music lured me in not knowing the treat I was in for. Lola café decor is a mix of bohemian and recycled industrial, that also encompasses a lot of thought and comfort for all diners. The striking mural on the rear wall is one to remember. If you’ve got kids, there are tables and chairs just for the them, plus plenty of books and toys to play with. Or for prams and strollers. I ordered the corn fritters which is 5 ⭐️ just for presentation let alone taste. I carefully ate my way through each layer, with surprises with every bite. From the toasted sesame seeds on the lemon wedge or the pumpkin seeds around the rim, the flavours all complemented each other. The smashed avocado under the perfectly poached eggs was a surprise as was the squeaky halloumi lightly cooked atop the fritters. A simple light salad of #tomtomatoes thinly sliced radishes and delicate greens atop and a spoon filled with chutney finished off the presentation with style and panache. The chef An was appreciative of the positive feedback. Staff Siena and Scarlett an added bonus to the business with their friendliness and smiles. Highly recommend. Notes: good street parking, wheelchair accessible, kid friendly, high chairs available, toilets onsite, dietaries catered for, licensed. Note: 2nd time around the food was again excellent. One of my top five cafes in Melbourne. Thank you again to An, Scarlett and Roth. #tripadvisor #tripadvisorreview #tripadvisorreviewer #googlelocalguide #googlelocalguides #letsguide #thewanderingreviewer @thewanderingreviewer #lolascafe #lolascafé

EDIT: To respond to the owners comment, I think it’s very rude to say/imply it never happened that way or that we prioritise kids, when it did in fact happen and maybe you were not made aware by your staff this had happened. We visited on a Saturday, the 1 April if you want specifics but I am not going to call you to discuss further as it seems from your comments that you couldn’t handle some feedback on how your business operated that day. Had a really disappointing experience here recently with my family. Dropped in for brunch and waited nearly an hour for food for the staff to completely forget our children’s food and then wonder why our kids started crying when they placed adult meals on the tables. Waited another 10 mins just for toasties (We hadn’t ordered anything complicated for them) Pretty disappointing when I ordered the children’s food and drinks as soon as we were seated and didn’t even order our food until our drinks were served. We were lucky enough surrounding diners were understanding that our children were upset/being very loud after waiting for food for so long. Don’t recommend this place for families with young children as you will be waiting a significant amount of time for food. I’ve given two stars as the drinks were okay but that was the only positive from this experience.

Lola Café in Seddon is a vibrant spot that brings a touch of Spanish flair to Melbourne’s brunch scene. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff and a decor that hints at its Mediterranean influences. The Chilli Scrambled Eggs are a standout, featuring scrambled eggs with zucchini, capsicum, tofu, feta cheese, chilli flakes, dried shallots, rocket, and sriracha mayo on buttered sourdough. It’s a dish that balances heat and flavor beautifully. The Barcelona Eggs Benedict offers a delightful twist on a classic, with homemade basil pesto, parmesan cheese, jamon serrano, and crispy sweet potato. The combination is both innovative and satisfying. For something more traditional, the Fish and Chips are executed with care—crispy battered fish served with well-seasoned chips. Prices are reasonable for the area, and the quality of the food makes it worth every cent. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty brunch or a light lunch, Lola Café delivers with flair and flavor. Highly recommended for those seeking a brunch experience with a Mediterranean twist.

Very bad experience. Rude service from the ‘manager’ himself.

I ordered a smoothie and asked for no milk.

Firstly, he used a jug that still had remnants of another smoothie in it, so it would have had milk leftovers in it. I then saw him put ice cream in it, which made me calm down, as clearly that couldn’t be my smoothie, as ice cream was not listed on its contents in the menu. But it was! And when I asked why did he put ice cream in it, he got very angry. He said it was coconut sorbet. No mention of that on the menu. Only coconut water and fruits.

I asked to see the ice cream tub contents and he was very deflective and rude about it, and said he’s busy . But the barista did shove it in my face saying it’s ‘dairy free’, but on the first line or ingredients I saw MILK POWDER in bold!

Just terrible! What if someone had a serious allergy? Why weren’t they making the smoothie according to the menu? If I didn’t watch him do it, I would have drank dairy!

I tried to make the point that he actually needed to take care in peoples dietary requirements, but he didn’t want to listen. This is very bad service and operations, he could not understand why I was so concerned, which makes it worse.

At least he gave me...
